Chigwell is East London & heathrow is West London. Two opsite sides of the cirty. I wouldn't take car for London sightseeing. Nearly all atractions are in zone 1, and that means congestion charges for your car. Every day is £8 if you do not pay on the day than is £10 and you gave 48hrs to pay up.
Parking is BIG problem & very expencive.
Heatrow is in zone 5 and where you are staying zone 4. So I would do following. buy one way ticket to the first station within zone 4, than at the same station (Heatrow) buy weekly travel card for zone 1,2,3,& 4. Cost you less.
For example I was in London on Tuesday, ticket for zone 1 & 2 cost me £5.60 for whole day, if I bought return from East Putney to Victoria, I was looking into £8.00 price.
You will same £££.
