Madrid One day and a night in Madrid as a start
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 05:24 AM UTC
Aloha,

I'm travelling to Granada for about 3 weeks. I'll stay in Madrid next Saturday and I'd like to get some tips on where to stay (nice hostel would do)and what's a must see/do in one day. (I've read all the replies to Susumarie, so now I also know about the museums, free concerts etc...-thanks for that)

Hopefully on the way back I'll have some more time for Madrid.

Thank you very much for your help in advance!
Have a nice Friday, Gabriella

not sure if they mentioned already walking in the Retiro Park --- it's close to the El Prado Museum which you might also enjoy (see the famous painting "Guernica")...and since you don't have much time, you mgiht consider riding the hop on-hop off bus that brings you to certain points around the city...you must see the Plaza Mayor and have tapas in one of the restaurants around it or just the amazing hot chocolate that they serve in Spain...Cheers, Norman :)

great combi Granada and Madrid. Saturday is a great day in Madrid, my favorite areas are a bit away from tourist attractions, by the Plaza de Castilla in north of Paseo de la Castellana. Metro will take you to center city very easy thus.
I have stayed at the Intercontinental Castellana ,49 paseo de la Castellana, and the Holiday Inn ,at plaza Carlos Beltran Trios, both very good hotels. For visiting in one day, the Retiro park is a good choice, but better go to paseo Pintor Rosales ,nice park nearby is the Debod temple (brought from Egypt) and the cable car (teleferico ) that goes to Casa de Campo, whre is an attraction parks with rides, zoo,and aquarium very popular with locals.

Hope it helps
