Hervey Bay Whale watching
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 05:22 AM UTC
Wife's birthday coming up and she'd like to go whale watching in Hervey Bay. Number of whale watch operators, all of which I'm sure will be quite adequate and professional. However, I was wondering if anyone could advise of personal experiences on any of the following tours and their recommendations:
Tasman Venture, Spirit of Hervey Bay, Quick Cat II, that's Awesome, Mikat, Whalesong, Blue Dolphin, Shayla and Volante III.

Any recommendations on best time of day? Some info I've got says in the morning for calmer seas, others say in the afternoon for increased whale activity.

While the "season" starts mid-July and finishes end-November, when would the best time be?

Appreciate any inputs! Thanks.

Hello Johan
We went on the Tasman Venture in early October for the full day. Plenty of whales about on that day. The TV is one of the larger vessels but that didn't detract from the experience. The TV ran a small shuttle bus along the esplanade picking up passengers along the way. The mornings are uneventful but plenty of activity after midday. If you can't make the full day make it for the afternoon

Hi Johan
Last year we used Spirit of Hervey Bay. It is a 75 foot catamaran and very stable. Upper and lower decks and large foredeck are accessible and comfortable seating is available. There is a sound system aboard that allows passengers to hear the whales singing & calling- it was fantastic. We saw more whales around 2.30pm. There is also a glass-bottom viewing area that allows really up close viewing of whales- its awesome.
Tea & snacks are provided.
Here is the website- ENJOY!!
