Egypt Info on Timing and Distance re the Suez Canel
Posted: Fri July 3, 2009 12:27 AM UTC
My wife and I are planning a boat cruise from Dubai to Venice. We transit the Suez Canal and stop at Port Said.

My problem is trying to determine if the transit of the Suez Canal will be done in daylight or whether it will be a night time cruise. My travel agent is not able to answer the question. The itinerary states"

==========================================================
Depart Sharm-El-Sheikh, Egypt. at 4.00PM (1600 hrs) on Saturday

At Sea Sunday

Arrive Cairo (Port Said), Egypt 8.00am (0800hrs) Monday.
==========================================================

Based on that schedule can someone with local knowledge give an opinion whether or not we will be in the Suez Canal during daylight?.

I would also like to know.....how far is it from Sharm-El-Sheikh to the "start" of the actual canal, and likewise.....how far is it from the "end" on the Canal to Port Said.

We went through Suez canal recently on QMary2 and I thought we had to wait for daylight to begin. Wonderful experience and mind boggling to think of the history Marg
