People-watching press project Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 10:03 PM UTC
So, what's your favorite people-watching spot in the world? Mine would be either the Cafe de Flore in Paris or the "Garage" flea market in New York.
What's yours?
And yes, this may turn into a press project if we get great responses. ;)

St James's Park in London (in the summer, of course) - amazing blend of tourists and locals and businessmen on lunchbreak.
Steps of the Duomo, Florence - We always said that if we just sat long enough, every person on earth would pass by. It's in the heart of the crazy tourism of that city, but it's beautiful nonetheless.

Well for me that is any Sunday in the winter months in Spain Andalucia Costa del Sol .
It is amazing to see the locals walk on the ''Paseo's ''with hats scarves and sweaters on.
Then you see the Brits the Dutch the Germans and others from Europe's colder countries walking around with no shirt on and some even on the Beach and a few even in the water .
Ok a few Canadians and Americans and of course others from North America are there as well .
I find that very interesting and I can sit there for hours watching people go by it's so very relaxing .

well, i love the laneways in melbourne (a little enclave of cafes and clubs - street art sanctioned) but the passegiata in Lecce in Puglia springs to mind
but everyone is walking - making the promenade and they are looking at you as much as you are looking at them

The Caffe Pedrocchi in Padua. It has been a student hangout since it opened in 1831, and is THE place to see and be seen.

I work at an airport, and I must say it's prime people watching. My top choice would be Harvard Square in Cambridge, Mass.
The London Tube is a good one.
Central Park in NYC
Martha's Vineyard, Massachusetts (during the summer)
San Francisco..just about anywhere in the city
yikes, I could go on for hours....

For me, pretty much anywhere in Chicago. My friend and I sat outside the Hard Rock Cafe for hours. I even had a homeless guy come up to me and draw a picture of me and only charged me 5 dollars :)
I would also say Amsterdam anywhere in the Red Light District. Very, very interesting.

I'm going to second Shohman's vote for Harvard Square in Cambridge, MA. It's really hard to beat that. I'm also adding Commercial Street in Provincetown, MA. That's about as interesting as it gets. :)

Another of my choices, has to be from one of the restaurant terraces overlooking Djemma El Fnaa in Marrakech- at all times of day, but particularly late afternoon onwards from when the foodstalls are being set up to into the night. A People Watchers Paradise!
Locals, tourists, berbers, touregs, snake charmers, stall holders, story tellers, acrobats, musicians, prostitutes, Immans, men riding donkeys laden with bales, fortune tellers, 3 or more generations of a family strolling together, transvestites, wrestlers, henna artists, con artists, hawkers, men carrying monkeys, beggers, courting couples, argueing youths etc etc.
