Has anyone stayed at the Hotel Cavalieri in Amalfi? Any comments? Is this a good location for seeing the other towns in the area? How far is it from Positano?
Grazie,

The hotel website says it is a ten-minute (downhill, I assume) walk to central Amalfi (where the bus/ferries depart)

It's not too far from Positano: 19km (about 30 mins driving), and about 31km from Sorrento (45 ins).

But it's a beautiful, very famous and very tourist-popular coast road to Positano and Sorrento, so is very prone to traffic congestion at weekends and in season (and it's easy to get stuck behind a slow-moving lorry).

If you are not hiring a car, then you will have to rely on local buses (and/or the coastal ferries). There aren't too many buses from Amalfi.....Sorrento is a much better base for public transport, imo, and has the Circumvesuviana railway station as well.

You can get to Positano and Sorrento easily with the coast-road bus (superb views....look at my Amalfi travelogues), as well as a number of other villages and towns.
