I'll eat soup in 90 degree weather...I don't care I like it. I also drink hot chocolate in the summer. People still drink hot cofeee and hot tea in the warm months so soup shouldn't be any different.

Ha Ha Ha Lee.
Best joke I've heard all week .
My antipathy to soup comes from having too much home-made mutton broth with onions floating in it, on the menu when I was a child. I really hated it but it a 'clean your plate' policy was in force and my mother wasn't easily fobbed off.
Result of this 'forced' eating is that I've been incredibly lax with my own children regarding food likes and dislikes and ended up with a houseful of fussy eaters.
Now, my husband is partial to those disgusting packet soups and the sight /smell of them makes my stomach heave.

Re: Soup in the summer? Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 07:30 PM UTC
Here is the recipe I use:
3 tomatoes, chopped
2 cucumbers, peeled and chopped
1/2 red onion, chopped
1 green bell pepper, chopped
1 yellow bell pepper, chopped
1 garlic clove, minced
1 Tbsp. extra virgin olive oil
1 Tbsp. lemon juice
4 cups vegetable cocktail juice
garlic croutons and cold cooked shrimp for garnish
Preparation:
In a large glass bowl, combine all ingredients except croutons and shrimp and mix gently. Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to blend flavors. Serve chilled, topped with croutons or cold cooked shrimp. Serves 6
The key is to let the flavors blend. I usually make it the night before. You can also make it with other fresh vegetables and leave out of shrimp.

Yes, I eat soups year-round, but often cold soups in the summer, such as the great recipe for gazpacho soup above, or my cold onion-cucumber-cream soup, or even a cold vegetarian bean soup that I make myself. I don't like packaged or canned soups, as they tend to be ultra-high in sodium content.

Well, I am sorry, the concept of cold soup is just wrong! If it is cold it is not soup. No idea what it is (very wet salad?) but it cannot be soup. That is my tuppence worth, call me old-fashioned if you like.

Zanzooni, I consider myself to be a fairly advventurous eater. Whole frogs, locusts, pigs intestines and brain masala have all featured on my menu in the past, and I look forward to finding more exotic things to eat. Fruit soup. What, in the name of God, is that?
May I quote from the Cambridge dictionary.
noun [C or U]
a usually hot, liquid food made from vegetables, meat or fish:
"Soup" made from fruit is juice, be it hot or cold.
I am intrigued, however, being a bit of a foodie. What is your recipe for your fruit whatever it is (never to be called soup ;-)))?
fergy.

I don't eat soups in summer because it's too hot. And winter ... I don't eat soup because it's too hot. When I make a cup of tea it's left for a while to cool down, both summer and winter.

I drink a lot of fruit juices, and I often have vegetable juices. So, in reality, you could say that I have 'soup' all year. See, we're mid winter now and temps are 34C to 35C, have been for the past fortnight. Something cold goes down a lot better.

When they make juices they'd have to cook them so they store until sale. Unless they add a chemical cocktail.

It's about the ingredients and the thickness. It's like: What's the difference between: soup, juice, puree, sauce, paste, broth, etc.? ~

Hot soup (like beef stew) is good anytime of year. I've not had a cold fruit soup since spending some time in Sweden in '79. I don't remember what kind but it was delicious.
The favorite - a very good French onion soup with lots of melted cheese on it.

I love cold soup in the summer or winter, I mean special cold soup, Lithuanian national thing:
Cucumber (choped)
Beetroot (choped and marinated in apple juice and sault)
dill (chopped)
green onion (chopped)
Yogourt and cold water mix (good by mixer)
sault and a bit of pepper
Mix everything as a soup, add quarter of boiled egg and serve with hot baked or boiled potatoes in the separate plate. You can add a spoon of sour cream. Bon apetite (picture: http://img0.liveinternet.ru/images/attach/c/0//43/120/43120553_saltibarsciai12327478131.jpg)
