Emails via Blackberry Brussels
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 05:44 PM UTC
I will be visiting Brussels in September 2009 and need to be able to get to my emails for work while I'm there. My job has given me a Blackberry and I need help knowing what to do to use it. Can anyone help me with my options? Thank you in advance!

Hopefully they have configured it so that you can already get your emails on it right now. If it should be transparent to you when you get to Europe. If you need help in using it, check with someone you know that has one for help. They are not difficult to use.

The only issue is ensuring that they have given you a unit that is compatible with the cell phone infrastructure in Europe - GSM. So if you are from most of the world, you are compatible. If you are North American, you need to check.

The most common cell phone standard in North America is CDMA, which does not work in Europe, but there are a number of North American GSM providers too. A quick test would be that if your cell phone provider sells the iPhone. If the answer is yes, you should be okay, otherwise it would be prudent to check.

on the left side of the blackberry, there is a push-down button which will bring you to "which part of blackberry you want to see immediately" - if you want to go directly to addresses, the internet or so forth....I configured mine such that it goes to my "Yahoo email inbox" immediately, then I don't have to "sign-in" into Yahoo all the time...at the click of a button, you have all you emails...and it is very easy to configure your phone to do that(It is in the manual). I live in USA and we have a plan where it works whether I am in Europe or South America or Asia... ...good luck, Norman :)

Just be very careful about the charges. Check with your provider how much it is going to cost you. I am on Vodafone and they charge £4.99 for every email they push to your handset (Blackberry), every time you send an email and every time you use the internet. Could prove costly. Oh, and by the way,if you go outside Europe, the cost goes up drastically! I enquired about India, and the the charge is £29.99!!! The young guy I spoke to at Vodafone when I enquired said "Don't even think about taking your Blackberry abroad!
