Niagara Falls Walking Across Boarder?
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 05:36 PM UTC
Hello,

I have never been to Niagra falls and was wondering if it is possible to walk across the boarder?
How expensive is it to cross with a taxi?
Is there a bus service that crosses boarder?
If there are more than two ports of entry, which one would you recomend?

Thank you...

We were in niagra falls last summer and did walk across the bridge closest to the falls and thereby crossing the border. there is a place where the border patrol checks the passports of pedestrians.

It's very easy to walk across the border. I've done it twice. As long as you have your documents in order it's quick and easy.

Yes, you can walk across to Niagara Falls, Ontario or New York on the Rainbow Bridge which is open to pedestrians. You must have a valid passport as of June 1, to enter the U.S.
Other bridges are Whirlpool Rapids Bridge which is one mile down from Rainbow and just out of town is the Lewiston-Queenston Bridge which connects to the QEW highway

And the US border control on the Rainbow Bridge charges you! (I think it was 50 cents 3 years ago)

I had no problem walking across Rainbow Bridge into Canada. But on the return (by Greyhound Bus) I had managed to lose a slip of paper inserted in my passport when I landed at Newark, so had to pay $2 or so for another.

My personal recollection is that one person handed it to me at Newark, and another one relieved me of it!

Anyway, make sure you have one if you want to come back.

Yep! I was just there three weeks ago and figured why pay for parking twice? Rainbow Bridge has some nice views. Two things to remember - be sure to have your passport with you, and you'll need a quarter to cross from Canada to the U.S. (either country's quarter will work!)

Enjoy - it's a great place to wander around!

I was there 2 days ago and yes, you can walk across. We didn't do it but there's a clear sign on the Canadian side (across from the Hard Rock Cafe/Casino entrance) that says "Pedestrian Walkway to the USA". I took a picture of the sign. I guess if you have the necessary documents it shouldn't be a problem.

Also, I would recommend seeing both sides of the Falls. They are both different and equally beautiful. :) The Canadian Side is much more built up...more restaurants and shops and the casino. Like a mini-Las Vegas. The American side is more naturesque, keeping to preserving the environment around the Falls.
