I will be visiting Brussels in September 2009 and need to be able to get to my emails for work while I'm there. My job has given me a Blackberry and I need help knowing what to do to use it. Can anyone help me with my options? Thank you in advance!

perhaps you could ask this question in the technical forum

i have always found VTers to be very helpful (and knowledgeable) on these subjects

but it can take a day or two for people who can help you to log on

so check back

not that you mightn't get answers on this forum - but this forum moves very quickly and qujestions get buried

I have a BB and use it often when I travel to Belgium to send & receive emails so I can confirm the technology works!

If you can send/receive emails in your home country AND you have international roaming enabled on your SIM/Contract, you should be ok to receive emails abroad.

If you have not set the BB up yet to send/receive emails, you need to work out what system you'll be on.

1. BES - Blackberry Enterprise Server - if it's this, you'll need your work to provide access to this.
2. BIS - Blackberry Internet Server - If it's this, you need to set up a blackberry account with your service provider (vodafone, O2, etc) and then add in your email server details (servers, username, password, etc). You can either do this from you handheld or from a computer.

See the blackberry website for details on this
http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/microsites/search.do?cmd=displayKC&docType=kc&externalId=KB03087&sliceId=1&docTypeID=DT_SUPPORTISSUE_1_1&dialogID=114722821&stateId=1%200%20114742047

NOTE: By default (for BIS), you'll get a footer at the end of every sent email saying something like "This message was sent from my Blackberry". To remove this, you must log into your blackberry account on a computer, not the handheld - Took me a while to work this out!!!!

I used my BlackBerry in Bruessels two years ago. Check with your service provider. With T-Mobile I have to ask that international email service be added, there is an extra charge. When I return home I call them ask that the service be stopped and they prorate the service on a per-diem basis (about 75 cents a day.) If it is a coroporate account, you may have to arrange this through the office, but the service is inexpensive and it allows you to stay in touch while you are on the road.
