Coming to Shanghai in September Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 05:00 PM UTC
I will be visiting China in September and the trip will finish off in Shanghai 21st - 26th. Should be spending 5 days here, I am dying to get here sooner from all the pictures I am staring at everyday. Wondering if anyone wants to meetup or join me adventuring the city?

Too bad, I have been to Shanghai already. You can search for members living in Shanghai and send them a message :-)
There are three things that you should not miss in Shanghai - 1) night river cruise to see the Bund, a row of colonial buildings 2) Yu Yuan Garden 3) acrobaat show. For pictures, you can check out my article
http://www.ehow.com/how_5050876_chic-cruise-around-shanghai.html
For night life, hang out in Xian Tin Di or walk Nanjing Pedestrian Mall.
Enjoy!

Thanks for the advice yellowbell. Question: How did you get around in Shanghai - Metro/Taxi/Bus? I'm planning to take the metro around I hope the system is easy to use like Hong Kong's.

I haven't tried the Metro but the taxi is convenient enough. Just bring a hotel business card in Chinese characters and everything will be hassle free. You can also pick up travel brochures in Chinese characters at the hotel or you can ask the concierge for directions.
Have fun!

http://www.exploreshanghai.com/metro is the same, but the English version.
I would say take the metro for most of your sightseeing, with the occasional taxi to supplement.

Great! This makes taking the metro alot easier. Anyone know or heard anything about the Wugong Hotel or Dongding Hotel? Also I plan on going to the Cloud 9 Sky lounge and the rooftop restaurant at the Ocean Hotel but is looking for people or someone to go with???

Cloud9’s view was stunning on a sunny day. Well worth the price paid for.

Re: Coming to Shanghai in September Posted: Thu July 9, 2009 05:37 AM UTC
I've had travellers stay at Wugong Hotel before, but not the other one. Location is reasonably central.
Cloud 9 bar in Grand Hyatt? I think I'll pass on that one since I've been up there a few times already and it's a little expensive for my student budget. :P You might also want to consider View Bar (hope I remembered the name correctly) in Hyatt on the Bund -- it's actually some distance north of the Bund, but has a reasonably good view of the Bund, better hope that it's not just of the construction!

Ellyse thank you for being so kind. Since you have been to Cloud9 a few times. Anywhere else you wouldn't mind showing me or joining me? If cost is an issue I can help with that but there are places I simply can't go alone.

LOL, which places can you not do alone? I won't mind trying View Bar and the nightlife around if someone's treating. ;)

Are there any english speaking service at the Nanjing/Suzhou train stations? I know the one in Shanghai does for sure but not sure about the other ones. I also heard there are 2 types of trains to take a slow and fast one.

None at Suzhou, not sure about Nanjing.
You want the D trains, don't bother about any others.
Let me know if you want help getting train tickets in advance. :)
