Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Belgium Brussels trains
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 01:01 PM UTC
Hi all

I need some advice on Brussels Midi train station!
I arrive by Eurostar at 17.33, will I be able to make the 17.57 train to Liège?
Also, is there any benefit of booking my Brussels-Liège ticket online or can I buy for the same price at the station immediately before travel?
If I don't have much time between the trains I suppose online booking might be better. What do people think?

Many thanks!

A Eurostar ticket is normally valid to any Belgian station. So you shouldn't have to buy anything else. Just hop on the first train available. You might get the 17.57, but if you miss that one you can get a later one.

I dont think any Eurostar will lead to any belgian station (then again correct me if im wrong). usually they make you get off your destination stop and you have to buy another ticket. If you dont make it theres always the next train.

buying the ticket on the spot is the same price, though you might lose time with line up (either buying tickets in person or at the machine). I still recommend buying it there though- in case you miss it, they might be able to advise you other trains to take or tell you if your train is delayed etc...

The last time I traveled London --> Brussels on Eurostar the ticket was valid to any station in Belgium on that day. I'm sure this still applies, a look on their website should confirm this.

Just to confirm, a London - Brussels ticket is valid to any station in Belgium so you will not have to buy another ticket once you arrive.

However, the Eurostar does tend to suffer a little from delays so catching another train 24 minutes after your scheduled arrival may be tight. I would suggest you know exactly which platform you need to depart from before hand just in case you need to run.

If you arrive by Eurostar you don't need to buy an extra ticket for onward travel in Belgium.
However if you really want this...
You can buy tickets for the Belgian railways online and print them out yourself. This saves you having to line up at the ticket window. Tickets for domestic trains in Belgium are not for a particular train, you don't book, or reserve (as this isn't possible) so you don't need to worry about missing the train you intended to take. Just hop on the next one... Basically it's a country wide mass transit system.

However, just to repeat this.

It is not necessary to get an extra train ticket when arriving on Eurostar. Your Eurostar ticket includes travel to any Belgian station within 24 hours after your arrival. So no worries. Just hop on the next train to Liège.

Belgium is not a big country, and the railways have quite a few "flat rate" offers for travel in the whole place. When you for example buy a Thalys ticket (high speed train from Paris) you can get "Any Belgian Station" added for 4,5 euro.
