Dublin weather this weekend/exchange rate
Posted: Thu July 2, 2009 01:48 AM UTC
hello: weather.com shows Dublin to have "light rain" this weekend--is "light rain" for dublin just a drizzle or is it something more? Also, has anyone seen what the currency exchange rate is for US dollars at the exchange houses in the city center--need to see if its a better deal (can get no fee changes using employee pass of my family) to just change here in the US before going over? (please, no discussions/personal opinions on using atms, the dollar sucks etc etc--I have been to europe a zillion times and I prefer to exchange cash for personal reasons!). Thanks!!

Generally speaking, you're better off changing money before you go - that's how arbitrageurs make their money. You just need to gamble on whether the euro exchange rate will vary significantly while you're travelling.

I worked in Cork for nine months, and it seemed like it rained every day. What the locals called 'soft'.

'Light rain' will have nothing to do with Dublin...it will be weather.com's interpretation of the term.

I prefer the BBC, because it knows about rain :-)).

'Heavy showers'......so you may get rain or you may not, it may be long-lasting or it may not.......not drizzle though.

'Shower' means of short duration. Quite often the weather forecast can be showers, followed by rain.

Today the rain is heavy. We had thunder and lightening last night. That should clear by this afternoon and then we will have cloud. The temperature is 21 degrees. As I look out the window now the rain has stopped. It comes and goes this week and will be the same all weekend.

The exchange rate for the dollar is on our favour at the moment. I'll check exact rates if you like.

Enjoy the weekend.

From Irish Meterological service today:

FRIDAY NIGHT, SATURDAY, SUNDAY, MONDAY : Changeable and unsettled - dry and clear at times (some sunshine most days), showers or longer spells of rain also, some of them heavy or thundery. The showers possible at any stage, but most widespread during the afternoons and evenings. Still fairly warm through the weekend, with daytime temperatures of 20 C or higher at times in sunshine - but not as exceptionally humid as earlier in the week, a bit fresher (and breezier at times too) as southerly winds gradually turn southwest or west. Cooler overall by Monday, winds veering west or northwest.

As regards currency conversion, bear in mind that most major banks will be closed over the weekend, so you're only option will be currency exchanges. Probably better to change currency before you arrive.

Hi everyone: thanks for your help!! I know the current (as of right now) exchange rate w/the euro/dollar is 1 to 1.41. BUT, what I am wondering is what rate would I get from a currency exchange place in the Dublin city center--I have the chance change to change my dollars to euros before I leave, but I'd rather wait and change them in Ireland if the price is better. Thanks!

Monica, forget what the Irish met office forecast has to say and bring your wellies. Last night it rained so hard in Dublin that people in some residential areas were flooded out of their homes. Sorry to break the news.... Today the rain is equally torrential.
