Transportation from airport...

Hi - we're flying into Dubai and need to get to Abu Dhabi. I know it's about a 2 hour drive. We'll have alot of stuff so I guess we'll need to take a taxi. What is the approximate cost? Thanks... (How is the driving - should we rent a car?)

hi,
if u take a taxi from Dubai to Abu Dhabi airport, it will cost u abt 270 dirhams (/3.66 = 74$), i went once abt 2 years back.
well, to Abu Dhabi city it will cost abt 320 dirhams or 88$.
but, as i remember, there were public buses from Dubai airport toward Abu Dhabi, u shud check information counter in the airport.

Hi there,
If you rent a car then it would be much cheaper to get to AbuDhabi and in addition you can take extra miles to various locations inside AbuDhabi. There are few Rent-a-car counters on arrival area.

We did not drive ourselves when in Dubai but from my observations Dubai traffic was a hell of a lot better than that in Cairo. Marg

You could drive very easily. The road is signposted well from Dubai Airport and it's one big freeway (Sheikh Zayed Road) all the way from Dubai to Abu Dhabi.

The city of AD itself is confusing though and parking is difficult.

Donna, you'll need an International Driving Licence issued in your own country.

Donna,

If you are flying on Etihad Airlines, they have a complimentary shuttle bus to Abu Dhabi from Dubai. A taxi is not too bad. I was there last month and took a cab from Abu Dhabi to Dubai Airport and was charged 270AED, which is about US$75, not bad considering it is an hour and a half to two hour drive.
