Dublin Opion on Taxi Company
Posted: Tue June 30, 2009 05:17 PM UTC
Hello All,

We are seeing a dinner show at the Merry Ploughboy Pub which is a little outside of Dublin City Center and since we don't have a car I guess we'll be taking a taxi. The Pub's website lists a taxi company that will give us a twenty percent discount but they don't list their rates anywhere which can't be a good sign. The taxi company is Xpert Taxi. Does anyone have an opinion on if they are a good and hopefully cheap company? Maybe another company would be better? There are seven of us and I was a little wary of taking the bus since we would have to work off their scheduale and the stop might not be close to our destination. If anyone has any opinions they would be greatly appreciated, :).

Taxis in Ireland are metered but you could also ring them up and agree a price with them in advance. The main companies all have seven seater vehicles for large groups. You should have no problems at all.

I just checked the pub's website (www.mpbpub.com) and it gives lots of detailed info about transport, including the time -25mins, and the average fare - €20 before discount.
Obviously for a seven-seater you may have to pay more, but as advised above I would ring them and agree a price.
According to the website there is no public transport to the pub so you will have to arrange a taxi to get there and back. You could negotiate a price for the round-trip with the same company.
I would be inclined to go with the taxi company recommended by the pub, they are mutually dependent businesses and not likely to rip you off, I felt the website was very clear about the location and distance whereas a taxi company that you pick randomly might be more inclined to take you on a scenic route!
