The answer could be Yes -- as long as you are paying for TWO people.

Do you mean "for the night" or simply a short visit "during the evening time"?

"To spend the night" - definitely NO. For visits, it is customery to meet friends in the lobby, bar, or restaurant however I'm faily certain that if you ask the desk (and your friend doen't look like she's "on the game") then my guess that it will be alright for a very short visit to your room. I'm not 300% sure mind you.

Check yhe room that you booked whose tariff is PER PERSON BASIS or PER ROOM BASIS.
If it is per room basis, then you can inform the reception at the time of your checking-in that your friend will checkin later. Then no questions asked.

If the tariff is per person basis, then your friend may not be allowed to stay after certain timing normally after 1130pm or midnight(depends on each hotel).Otherwise you may have to pay extra for extra person.

Come on! The answer is simple. This is Thailand where money talks.
Rules? What rules?

But at first, proceed with that "guest" ;) to your room just as any two regular people would normally proceed to their room.

Should the clerk ask, just slip her/him a few hundred bahts and the night is yours.

Thank me later. ;)

Cheap hotels rarely charge a joiner fee. Expensive hotels usually charge for temporary guests.

You might be right, and I'm inclined to agree - but Radisson isn't a "run of the mill" hotel chain. If you can get away with it at the Hilton you could very well get away with it at Radisson ..... but ......can you get away with at the Hilton? Doubtful.

Definitely not a "run of the mill" hotel chain, but ultimately, it all comes down to the Thai employee(s).

Let's see here, doubling or tripling a day's pay with a pay off? Or adhere to rules and restrictions over a victimless violation? Thais tend to be a rather practical-minded, yet unscrupulous bunch. Thus from my experiences in Thailand, it tells me that it's not a tough choice to make in the mind of many Thais. Scams and Thailand very much go hand in hand.

With all due respect...if the hotel is " per room" fine. If not, you pay for overnight guests. It is the tourist who offer these bribes to employees who cause half the problems, then are quick to talk about corrupt staff and crime....It is a crime to bribe anybody.

My answer is NO you would not be allowed to have an overnight guest at the Raddisson, or most decent hotels...It might be different at the hotels in the Patpong area, but then you know the guest is not a close family friend.

Mike

SirHalberd is absolutely and simply right! Big hotels charge for everything. You can usually bring a guest, but the guard will stop you and make you go to the main desk with your scantally clad friend and pay a joiner fee of up to 1000 Bt. This is usually so embarrassing that you will be discouraged from these activities.

Big hotels with high prices also charge for internet, while the small ones don't. I could never understand why a 4000+ Bt. per night hotel has to do this. Do they need the money, or do the clientele just expect it and feel cheapened by the fact that they got something for free?

There are plenty of very good hotels that will not cause you any embarrassment or charge for internet. Here is a good site for information on hotels and their policies.
