Munich Can one upgrade from one zone to two zones?

I want to buy another 3 day pass to roam around town. But within these 3 days...I want to go to Dachau. Is there an upgrade for one day option?

Thank you!

Hi Carolyn

Not sure of the upgrade options - but there are plenty of information points in the Hoffbahnhof and I am sure you will get the answer you need. Worst case is to buy a return to Dachau and as it's only 12 miles out of Munich - then I guess the cost is not going to be too much.

Funny, I have stayed in Munich over 30 times and never yet made it to Dachau - it seems so out of character with the Munich I know and love. One day mybe I will.....

Absolutely agree. Just get a 3-day travel card for in Munich, and then buy an extra return ticket to Dachau for the day you need it. Caveat. I am not sure you can buy a 3-day travel card? If memory serves me correct they are either one day or one week cards?

As far as I know there isn't an option for an upgrade, but you could purchase a "Streifenkarte mit 2 Streifen" (EUR 2.20), literally a ticket with 2 strips.
Validate one strip on your way to Dachau and the other one on your way back (fold the first strip, then validate).

Each strip is valid for 4 stops, which is plenty in your case. Trouble is: If I'm not mistaken, on your way to Dachau, you would have to hop out of the train before leaving the tariff zone, quickly validate the ticket, miss the train nonetheless and wait for the next to come, as - for obvious reasons - there are no validating machines on the train.

It has been awhile since I lived in Bad Toelz, but you used to be able to buy a Gesamtnetz ticket that would take you anywhere on the S and U Bahn system. Dachau is on S2.

I am assuming this is the same animal:
