Copenhagen Need Gift Suggestions for Danish Friends
Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 01:55 PM UTC
I'll be returning to visit friends in the Copenhagen area. I thought it might be appropriate to bring a gift, or gifts to those I visit. Can anyone provide information on what makes for good gifts to bring? To add, where I live there is a chocalate company that makes really good chocolates, and are generally good gifts. I suppose I could bring a box of chocolates, but I am still interested in ideas. I always have a hard time getting ideas of what to buy my own family let alone old friends that I don't see very often. Therefore, I thought I might ask here if anyone can suggest some good gift ideas to bring to my Danish friends. Thank you.

A box of chocolate is widely used as a gift in Denmark. Flowers are also widely used.

I hate buying gifts more than anything else. Well ..... I dont like figuring out how much to "tip" in other countries either!

Anyway, the rule of thumb in buying gifts for friends abroad is to buy whatever it is thats "indigenous" to your country. I dont know where you are from but if its Belgium or Switzerland then you cant go wrong with chocolate. If you are not from those countries then try to buy chocolate thats both unique and popular "at home". Everyone says that it is the thought that counts and thats true but I wouldnt advise bringing a Big Mac with a Coca Cola - even if you are from the States!

You can also buy flowers as the above poster said and that also a good idea but youd have to buy them when you arrive in Denmark and then the "indigenous" novelty is lost. My best advice is doing both.

"Indigenous?" I think that's a good idea too.

However, I took a bottle of Kaluah, as it is made in Mexico and most people like it. When I got to Denmark I found out they have a Kaluah company there that makes it too!

Hi Steve

I would think of a good book or some mucic you like on a CD. We do have most of the global products here. So just think like its a friend in a nextdoor city in the US. But Book and CD´s are more expencive here then in the US. And a good book or CD is always a good gift.
