Munich My daily commuting from Nordfriedhof to Rotkreuzplatz - is there an easier way?
Posted: Mon June 29, 2009 10:46 AM UTC
I've been taking the U6 to Sendlinger Tor and changing to the U1. This commute can take up to 40 minutes! I see lots of trams and busses around. Is there anything faster? Thank you!

What kind of area is Rotkreuzplatz? I see lots of restaurants. Are they good.

The Munich public transport website is MVV, go into that and the quickest route will appear, I have found the website very helpful when i have visited Munich.

Hi,

just checked the MVV map whcih includes the buses and trams here (careful, rather large file, ca. 6MB):
http://www.mvv-muenchen.de/web4archiv/objects/download/2/vlp09stadt.pdf

There doesn't seem to be a more direct connection, other than the N41 Bus, which is a Night bus and only runs from 1a.m through 5 a.m...

Hold it, according to this
http://efa.mvv-muenchen.de/mvv/TTB/MVV2__00000f67.pdf
there is the Bus No. 53, which runs every 10 Minutes from Münchner Freiheit (2 stops from Nordfriedhof) to Rotkreuzplatz in 16 Minutes..

Other than that: Get a pushbike (no, I'm not trying to be funny or fresh :-), I found riding a bike to be the fastest and most convenient way to get around and it's only 6 km, i.e. 20 Minutes by bike..

Best,
Glissi

The bus is only the fastest way to travel outside the rush hour. So if you have to travel when all commuters are on the roads it is wiser to use the metro.

I quite like the area of and around Rotkreuzplatz. It is the heart of the suburb of Neuhausen, and there are many nice restaurants. There is a pedestrian zone, so also nice for strolling around and shopping. Once a week there is a produce market (I think on Thursday), and during Christmas time a Christmas Market. The area has an interesting mix of people, with many students, as the main universities are not far away.

From Rotkreuzplatz it is only a relatively short walk to Nymphenburg castle. (But sure, you can also use bus/tram.)
