I had many of the same questions when I went to Egypt. You'll be with your boyfriend- sometimes you are advised to wear a wedding ring and claim him as your husband. Egyptian men flirt a lot- jsut stay close and avoid risky situations.
Clothing- it's a beach, so bathing suits are acceptable- you might take a tankini or one piece, and remember the cover ups- the sun can be quite intense, anyway. 3 quarter sleeves, even t- shirts are okay- you may want to avoid navel exposing tops, and longer shorts, pants, skirts, capris would be more acceptable.
I checked with my local health dept- got several vaccines b4 I went just in case. You probably don't need malaria. Be careful with drinking and eating- safest to eat from good restaurants, cooked foods, only bottled water, and avoid fruits with peels. I took hand sanitizer, tissues, and wipes and wiped off the outsides of bottles and cans b4 I drank. I didn't want to waste any time being sick on a vacation. My doc said to let stomach infections run their course, but did give me prescriptions for antibiotics just in case of need for either respiratory/ear/sinus infections and UI infections. Some folks advise Pepto Bismol tablets on a regular basis- I found no need. I was glad I took antibiotic ointment and band aids.
Camels are stinky and uncomfortable, but most feel compelled to ride 'em Take a hat, extra sunglasses, a light scarf/wrap/lava lava/pareau (what ever you call it) useful to keep off flies, a blanket, a wrap, a skirt, etc. Take sunscreen and use it.
Tips (baksheesh)are a way of life. Get Egyptian money, and tip in bills, not coins (locals have a hard time exchanging coins and foreign currency) Try not to overtip- and if you want to, let your boyfriend handle tipping for the both of you.
I packed light for 8 days- just a carry on and a purse that slung across my body and held close- discarded some clothes as I went to make room for souvenirs. Had no problem.
Wear your most comfortable shoes- I discarded 2 pair and just wore back one pair.
Have a great time- search out the Egypt tips on VT and you'll find some great advice.
Oh- the standard question to start a conversation to sell you something is where are you from? As a blonde some times I just got tired of saying US and just claimed to be Scandinavian and that I didn't understand English or German. It helped some with the pestering. There were many Russian tourists there also.
