Ipanema does not have a metro station as yet. The future General Osorio station is under construction. If you are looking for a moderately priced hotel in Rio, do not consider Ipanema hotels, because that neighbourhood is one of the most expensive ones in Rio.

The metro only goes to Copacabana. But taxis are cheap and the buses can also be convenient.
Not everything in Ipanema has to be expensive. We have stayed at a comfortable pousada for R$120 per night double. And since the room has a refrigerator, we shop at the nearby supermarket to save a bit, as well as eating at reasonably priced 'por kilo's there at lunch.
But you don't say what you consider "moderately priced". For about U$200 per night, you could try the Praia Ipanema (http://www.praiaipanema.com/), across from the beach, or look for more hotel info on www.ipanema.com (a good informational site anyway) or on Trip Advisor.

I'm not from Rio. I live in Belo Horizonte/MG.
Some news are reporting one subway station is being built in Ipanema district.
It will be named by General Osorio subway station, and, civil servants are saying it will be developed till 2009. This mentioned station is on Praça General Osorio and it will be connected to Line 1/Subway. Hope you will be luck.
Hotels *** in Ipanema district:
- Everest Rio; Rua Prudente de Morais, 1117
- Everest Park; Rua Maria Quiteria, 19
- Praia Ipanema; Av Vieira Souto, 706
The last one shows an splendid sightseeing.

I can recommend the Mar Ipanema Hotel, just two blocks off the beach, I have stayed there a couple of times and very decent hotel. Hotels.com and Expedia are both pricing it around $155usd a night during August and that includes a full breakfast.
You can also book transfers to and from the airport on their website which makes getting in and out a bit cheaper than taking a taxi.

There is a special Metro-Bus that that runs between the Copacabana Siqueria Campos metro station and Gavea. It has a stop at Praca General Orsorio in Ipanaema and at a few other Ipanmema locations. I have found it to be very useful in catching the Metro. I believe you actually pay and get your ticket for your Metro trip when boarding the bus. Your hotel staff should be able to give you the closist stop. As far as hotels, I have stayed at the Best Western Sol Ipanema right on the beach and really liked its location as well as their nice breakfast. However it may be a bit pricey depending on your budget. Enjoy Rio! -Gary

Sounds like the one you want is Margarida's Pousada on Rua barão da torre 600, Ipanema , email is margaridacarneiro@hotmail.com You'll find just 10 rooms in this tiny guesthouse. They range in size from small singles to roomier doubles, and each comes with air-con, a TV, a mini-fridge and a private bathroom. All of the floors are tile and the mattress are comfy. The apartment for rent is ideal for groups or families. It has two bedrooms, decent furnishings and ample space to stretch out. It's an excellent price for the neighborhood. Margarida, who originally hails from Portugal, is a long-time Ipanema resident and first opened the guesthouse in 1985. Her new guesthouse in Jardim Botânico has recently opened too.
Hope this helps

That's the one!
With Dona Margarida herself guarding the door at night. :-) And her great staff! Love it there!

Another hotel to consider is the Arpoador Inn, the only one actually on the beach. Check out tripadvisor.
