You Tube

When I was in Holland recently I went to a celebration of a towns history and there is a video on You Tube. Can I download this to a CD ROM or DVD to play on my domestic DVD player through my TV?

bookmark :-) I know that it is possible, a friend downloaded something similar of another town for me and when I asked how he did it he said "you wouldn't want to know". So I assume it wasn't illegal. But I would love to know if there is a (proper) method because there is much I would like to download.

Bookmark, ages ago I was shown how to do it but I have forgotten. I had to download a small programme to do it though. I'm sure the programme stopped working, that's why I stopped doing it.

You Tube has a 'download this video' link.

Hover your mouse cursor to the arrow top right of the video clip and you'll get a 'download this video' box.

Don't know what happens then, haven't done it since they put the arrow/box there. Seems to use Realplayer, which is also used by the BBC and is easy to download (free), but there is a 'save as' option as well.

there are routines available on the internet (some free, some shareware, some not-so-legal) that capture the streaming video as it is played on YouTube... you play the video on YouTube (after starting the capture routine) and a copy is made in real-time... the quality of the freeware versions is not so good but i have seen the not-so-legal versions and they are good.

there are also semi-legal websites that have copies of most YouTube videos.
you have to join up on those and then you get lots of spam.

just Google "Capture YouTube Videos" and takes your chances....
