Forum Question Posted By: Replies:
Zimbabwe vic falls activites
Posted: Sat June 27, 2009 06:24 AM UTC
hello,
we are a group of 10. we will be in Vic Falls (Zim side)from Aug 9-12. I have browsed a lot of websites to pre-book activites and they are all charging more or less the same prices (for ex $90-100 for a 1/2 day rafting). I have heard that it would cost less if one were to book activites there itself. My question is- would we be wasting time looking around for good deals? Would it be risky to wait until we reach to get the popular activities, especially as we are a large group? Is there any hope of finding an operator charging less than the online rates?
Secondly, should one take a 'tour' of the Falls or can one do it by oneself. Is canoeing a good activity as a substitute for Rafting?
Thirdly, has anyone done fishing during Aug in Vic Falls? Do we get a good catch, do they have catch and release policy? Is fishing better here or deep sea fishing in Cape town? (unpredictable weather in CT could be a spoilsport?)
Thnks in advance.

Hello,

The Falls are divided into 2 national parks on both sides of the border. You walk the trails inside the gates. That is the easy bit.

Try asking Jollyboys in Livingston, Zambia. It is a hostel that organizes loads of river activities.

If you look at my Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe page I have an accomodation called Victoria Falls Backpackers. Their link is on my tip. They can also organise trips including fishing. I would suggest you email both and ask.

Any operators on the Zimbabwe side are much less likely to be booked up and more likely to bargain as their tourist numbers are down a lot.

Have a great time,

DAO
