Cyprus Border Crossing, where is best to stay and do?
Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 01:31 AM UTC
Hello everyone

We decided to visit Cyprus this summer and we shall be getting to Kyrenia by ferry. We don't plan to stay in the Turkish side as we will have friends waiting for us in the Southern Cyprus.

1. How difficult is it to cross the borders? We're a Maltese couple and hold an EU passport.

2. Is there be any public transport between North and South?

3. Anybody knows if there are daily ferries departing from Alanya?

4. Where is best to spend a week? Shall we move from one place to another or we should be based in a place, hire a car and move around? We're mainly interesting in nightlife and beaches. And some sight seeing too.

Would appreciate any feedback asap!

Thanks to everyone!

Ferries are every day (Alanya only in Summer), if you need a visa for Turkey, Immigration might insist on getting $20 instead of €15! (happend to me in Tasucu)

As far as i know there is no public transport (public transport in the south is particular on the weekend not good) between north and south.
In Nicosia you can walk accross at Ledra Street, with a EU passport there is no problem crossing.

1) Since you hold an EU passport, it is not difficult at all. There will not be any problems at the Green Line checkpoint.
2) No - there is no public transport that crosses the Green Line. Your only options are pre-arranged taxis. Alternatively get your friend to pick you up.
3) Ferries schecules can be found at www.fergun.net
4) That depends very much what you want to see/do. If you are into nightlife and beach parties, Agia Napa is the place to be.
5) Again that depends very much on what you like. If you do want to move around, you will realistically need to rent a car. In a week you could see all the major cities, plus some of the Troodos mountains.
