Does anyone know is the Wellington to Auckland overlander worth doing and if it stops at intervals along the way between Wellington and Auckland?

You can find all info about the Overlander on the TranzScenic website:

The train has several stops along the way. For example, there is a 1.5 hour stop at National Park in Tongariro National Park, and this surely is the highlight of the trip. The other stops are shorter.

I have not travelled on it but still I think it is well worth doing it, given the itinerary.

Please note that the Overlander operates on 7 days a week only during the peak season and on 3 days only during the off-peak season.
