6 Days split between Phuket and Phi=Phi Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 06:47 AM UTC
Hi We will be arriving in Phuket for 6 nights next Saturday. Wondering if we should split 2 nights Phi_Phi annd 4 in Phuket?
What are main attractions between two places?
Any alternative place we should cover within thi strip?
Thanks for your help,
Jayesh

There is very little to do on Phi Phi other than relax whereas on Phuket there is a much greater variety of things to see and do. Have a look on the Phuket pages of people like me and Tina-Perth for good information. So I think a split of 2 days on Phi Phi and 4 on Phuket is a good idea.

John

Good info above. You'll also want to pay attention to weather conditions because this time of the year is more subject to storms or monsoons, the seas can get rough in which case it might be wise to postpone a trip a day or two to PHI PHI if conidtions are poor. Hope no one gets seasick easily. Otherwise, Phi Phi Island does offer stunning beauty if you take a longtail, ferry, or speedboat trip to the scenic destinations in the vicinity such as Phi Phi Leh or the snorkeling spots.
Also, much depends upon what you like to do when traveling.
If weather conditions are poor, you might consider a visit to the Krabi area as well since it's still on the mainland but again, there's touristy shopping restaurants, and beach/island hopping, caves, etc. in the area,

Jayesh, you don't say how many of you there are and what ages. In terms of accommodation at Phi Phi, the backpacker places are pretty much clustered around the village, and the "nicer" places to stay are on the outlying beaches. So if you stay at one of the nicer places and don't want to be confined to your resort to just relax with a book, you will want to take a boat to go to the village or to another resort for a meal, especially if you have children or elderly family members with you (the trails are hard to walk on, especially at night). The village itself has a number of bars where young people have all-night drinking parties, with a sprinkling of dive shops and souvenir shops and 7-11 shops. Not much else. If that sounds good to you (either the relaxing at the resort or the backpacker drinking parties), then by all means, go to Phi Phi!
Phuket is a much larger island with a lot greater variety of things to do, restaurants to try, places to stay. It's usually better for families that have children or grandparents since you can get transportation easily rather than walking for kilometers. You can easily get a ferry to Phi Phi for a daytrip from Phuket.
