My husband will be working in Lima Peru for 10 days and I will be going along but on vacation. Is it safe for an english speaking female knowing no spanish to be travelling alone? What type of guided day trips are available? I would prefer to be sightseeing with other vacationers rather than alone. Any suggestions? After reading about Lima on the internet it has made me a little apprehensive. Should I go to Lima and travel through the day on my own???? Would appreciate advice from people who have visited Lima and their suggestions. Thanks, Cheryl

Perfectly doable. Last january I met an American elderly lady, travelling on her own, in Lima (Miraflores) on the Mirabus and she told me she had a great time.

There´s a lot of info here on VT website.

You may want to have a look at my Lima pages.

Also advice to have a look at member risse73 her pages.

If you are interested in hiring a guide for a day, I used this woman when a friend and I were in Lima in March. She is very nice, drives a van, and her English is pretty good. << travel@monicatoursperu.com >>

Lima is very safe. You will have no problems. There is a city tour leaving from Kennedy park in Miraflores everyday. You can also take taxi to the city ctr and walk around to the sights there.

You will be safe! I definitely recommend going on an adventure (maybe even bring your husband)! A couple operators I know to be reliable are http://www.mountainlodgesofperu.com/ and http://www.latinamericandestinations.com/ so give them a shot. Not sure if they're in your price range (which is?) but they come highly recommended.
