sunday markets Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 12:09 AM UTC
Hi,
we will be arriving in london late afternoon, and staying close by victoria station. Is this a good and safe area to stay? Also,we wont be arriving to our hotel until maybe 5pm, are all the sunday markets closed by then?
Thank you

Here's a good listing of the markets in London, it looks like most of them are closed by 5pm, Camden is open until 6 pm but by the time you got up there from Victoria it would be likely be wrapping up. Covent Garden would still be open, mostly tourist stuff, but it's open every day.

Markets in general are best visited in the morning. I don't think there is much point visiting so late ...as noted above, they will be packing up....but nothing to stop you trying.
The area around Victoria station is ok, imo, just a typical big-city-station area. It's convenient enough for exploring central London by Tube/bus (or on foot, my preference).

Most of London is now very safe - look up and you will see the hundreds of CCTV cameras watching your every move. And of course the moves of those who would do you harm.
And yes, the Sunday markets are really mornings only.

I don't understand asking about safety after you have booked. Seem to me that is what you do prior to booking. In ant event, much like area's around train stations, a bit gritty, but not a danger.

If you're still in London, and are keen to check out the Market scene, one of the best options is the eclectic Camden Markets on the Northern line. They're open 7 days a week and are spread across a huge area selling everything from clothing and art to unique souvenirs and there's yummy food stall everywhere. There's also a handful of great pubs in the area to relax for a traditional British lunch - all the info you'll need for both mentioned are on www.urwurld.com/travelguide/London_Camden/ which is a great resource for really useful travel info all throughout London (and the Wurld!) ;)

Camden market is also a very popular tourist 'must-see' and full of visitors from all over the place.
Expect crowds, especially at weekends.
