Pittsburgh Things to do in Pittsburgh this sat (6/27)
Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 10:49 PM UTC
I and my girlfriend will be visiting Pittsburgh this weekend and are looking for stuff to do.

any suggestions please? I'll do the Duquesne Incline .. Point state park sounds cool but i hear its still under renovation. No use going there right ? Plus will it be pretty dead on saturday ? I'm not into museums.

I am looking for anything that will be a good time. It does not have to be pittsburgh speciality..

Thanks in advance for your time..

If you want to do the Duquesne Incline, there is a lot to do nearby. Station Square is a big spot, and it is right next to the incline. It is a five minute drive from the Duquesne Incline, and a one minute walk from the Monongahela Incline. It has restaurants, nightclubs, bars, and shopping. There is also a fountain show that runs every 20 minutes. Some of my favorite restaurants at Station Square are Buca di Beppo (Italian), Hard Rock, The Melting Pot, and Joe's Crab Shack.

This website has a map, a directory, and anything else you might need! http://www.stationsquare.com Also, if you ride the incline, make sure you look off of Mount Washington. It's the best view of the city by far, and amazing at night.

Alyssa,

Thanks for your reply.

I will definitely check out station square.

Do you know if point state park would be fun ? If there is a bunch of construction going on then may be not. I want to do a walk along the river. What will be a good spot to do that ?

The point of Point State Park has a nice view of the river, with room for a walk along it. It also has a beautiful fountain, which is not yet under renovation. I never drive there, so I wouldn't know about road construction. I always take the T to Gateway Center, then walk the short distance. The T is free within city limits, so if you park somewhere else, you can take the T to/ from Point State Park.

The Point is never overly crowded, but I doubt it will be dead on Saturday. Maybe some college students hanging around, or some people enjoying the view.

If you like baseball, the Pirates will be home on Saturday playing the Royals at 7pm. That could be fun - the Royals have one of the best pitchers in all of baseball right now and if he's pitching Saturday night you could be in for a really great game.

Daytime options:

1. Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. Check out the Cathedral of Learning, which is one of the most unique university buildings in the world. It is a 40-floor gothic skyscraper. Also, I know that you sid that you don't like museums, but I figured that I would make this suggestion anyway - the Carnegie Museum in Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood has one of the WORLD's best collection of dinosaur skeletons. Next door to that is the Phipps conservatory, which has a lot of interesting plant life under acres of large greenhouses.

2. The North Side. See a baseball game at PNC Park, one of baseball's best stadiums. Vist the National Aviary, a unique zoo with nothing but birds.

3. Mount Washington. Take one of the Inclines (Monongahela or Duquesne) up to the top of Mount Washington for a great view of downtown and the rivers.

Nighttime:

1. The South Side around Carson Street. Fun bar district.

2. Funky sandwich option - Primanti Brothers - a legendary Pittsburgh dive where they put the french fries in the sandwuch along with the meat, etc.
