Budapest Train, bus or flight between Budapest and Rome?
Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 03:22 PM UTC
Hi,

We will be travelling between Budapest and Rome at the end of July (2 adults and 2 kids). What is the best way to travel....bus, train or flight? Was looking into eurorail, alitalia and malev. Any other websites that I can look into? Thanks for your reply.

Hello

you can check some of the cheap airlines like Wizzair (www.wizzair.com). It costs 65-100 eur per person to one way.

Personnaly I'd prefer train or flight.

Check Wizz Air (http://wizzair.com/)

Flight from Budapest to Rome 28 July - 2 adults & 2 children (2-14 years) USD 124/one-way.

Eurolines (http://www.volanbusz.hu/en/#indexmainpage) takes 18½ hours and cost about USD 40/pp nett price.

There are train tickets from Budapest to Venice (for a night train), that start from 29euro (you need to buy them in advance - they are limited in numbers). From Venice it is already not a problem to get to Rome...
But if you are OK with Wizzair flight I would recommend to book it as soon as possible - the price is very good ;)

I had trouble buying these international discounted train tickets on the web in May, probably you have to go to the MAV office in one of the big railway stations, no?

halikowski, it is obvious that some will have problems buying international tickets since MAV doesn't sell them online ;)
So yes, you need to buy them at any railway station or ticket office in the city center (near Deak Ferenc ter).
