Not able to Save A New Tip I Have Written. Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 11:31 AM UTC
I can't seem to be able to save a tip when I have finished it. I press save and it flickers but does not save. Most annoying.

Check that it hasn't saved. Sometimes the page refresh does not work, and the tip/page/whatever actually turns up on the site even when you think it hasn't been saved.
If it really hasn't saved, then try again.....it was quite possibly a temporary glitch.

I am having this problem too - whenever I press finish and save, there's a bit of a wobble, page times out and says it hasn't been saved, my heart sinks.......
But it has happened so many times in the last few weeks that before starting all over again I check - and find the Tip is exactly where it should be. It does make posting Tips a bit like playing Cat & Mouse though!

No, I've tried loads of times and it hasn't saved. It says I have 9 photos on the tip but not in the edit form, only when viewing the page so no way of deleting them. I guess I will have to delete the whole tip and start again?

I also experienced "losing" some tips and pictures while saving. Sometimes, when I click Refresh, it reappears so I save it again, and I succeed. Sometimes, when I think I've lost my tips with pictures (after clicking Refresh and they don't reappear), I check my travel page and discover they have been saved already. On rare occasions, I REALLY lose the tips with pictures so I have no alternative but to repeat the process.

If you have extra photos in a tip, look and see which ones are duplicates. Delete those photos from the ones that you see in edit and the others will magically appear. So if you have 9 photos check which 4 are duplicated. Go to edit and delete them and save. You will not have only five photos.

Re: Not able to Save A New Tip I Have Written. Posted: Thu June 25, 2009 08:46 PM UTC
Above text - "not" should be "now"
If the site appears to be hanging when I try to save a tip, I copy the text onto the clipboard and resave. Usually this time it will save. If not, I start over with the clipboard text. I usually put the photos on first and save them, but it is easy (if time consuming) to re-enter photos. Losing the text makes me crazy though.
Also I usually have two windows open. One for the tip I'm writing and one on the page that I'm writing it for. So if the tip vanishes, I can refresh the alternate page and see if it is there before I do the back arrow.

Thanks everyone, will try tomorrow. As I have already lost the text, I might just re-do the tip altogether.
I also have the disappearing page when I am saving, just a white screen and I have to re-open VT to find my tip has saved. This is a separate issue and is livable with (Just!)

Another quirk that happens only sometimes rather than always, is that when I am ready to upload the third picture on an introduction page a message appears that says my pictures will appear "after" I have finished and press I'm done or words to that effect. It always seems to work though!

I encountered that situation many times, too, though my pictures appear after I click "I'm done..."

Re: Not able to Save A New Tip I Have Written. Posted: Fri June 26, 2009 06:29 PM UTC
As you may know, we are completely re-writing the code of VT, and reworking the means by which we make pages, upload photos, add tips etc.
We'll do this in phases. Later this summer/early fall, we'll launch the first steps which includs a new front page, and provides a member dashboard where members can login and see verything that's happening. We'll also have easier navigation and updated look.
After that, we'll proceed with next steps, first of which is to update all of the member page building areas, and how pages are displayed...nicer and cleaner.
Goal is to make page and tip building, quick, fast, easy and to add ability to do things like bulk upload photos.

Sorted now. Easiest option was to delete the whole tip and start again. Good job it wasn't a huge epistle I lost.
