Vienna Bus or Train from Vienna to Budapest
Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 07:18 AM UTC
Hi, I will travel from Vienna to Budapest in July. I am choosing between Eurolines or train. I know that there are buses running between them, but I can't read the language, I don't know how much it is and the timetable.

For train, the only seats available in the morning on 24 July are not special. It charges Euro 68 for 2 people. There is nothing cheaper.

Does anyone know the fare for taking the bus?

Since the train charges Euro68 for 2 people, is it better to take the bus? If yes, can I buy the Eurolines tickets on-line? If not, will the bus be full when I arrived at Vienna on 21 July to buy the 24 July bus tickets?

IS the bus more convenient for my lugagges?

Thanks for your reply.

In my reply to your first post I told you how to find the fares for the Eurolines bus in English.

You can buy tickets online using that process. It is quite possible that the bus will be full if you leave it until you arrive in Vienna but, as there are 5 services per day, you may be able to get a seat. No-one can be certain of this. It is much better to book online.

Here is the English link:

http://www.eurolines.at/en/home/tickets_booking/online_booking/

Most of the Eurolines link I gave you is in English but if there are odd words in German which you do not understand then use this online translator:

The 11am bus on 24th July will cost you 26.10 euro one-way.

Neither bus nor train is more convenient for your bags.....you will still have to lift them onto and off the vehicle. Train is faster and more comfortable than bus, and cheaper of course.

You might try writing to OEBB. They probably can help with Sparshiene tickets to Budapest (you will pay online and afterward just print your ticket at the station)
If not you can always use unlimited in number EURegio tickets till Gyor for instance (cost 19 euro r/t), there you can easily change for numerous trains to Budapest...
