Suggestions for a Budget, 4 Day Multi-City Trip from Barcelona Posted: Wed June 24, 2009 07:01 AM UTC
Hello,
I would love suggestions for a budget, 4 day multi-city trip from Barcelona (BCN).
* I'm willing to take the train, or fly to save time since I only have 4 days to see parts of Spain, outside of Catalonia.
* I'd be happy if I could manage 2-3 cities within the four days, before returning to Barcelona.
So far I've managed to find tour companies that offer 5+ day trips, but NOT out of Barcelona.
Thanks in advance!

Pedmar,
It's a start. I'd feel much better if the sites were in English, lol. Thank yo so much for providing those links. I'll see what I can figure out & hopefully end today with a great 4 day itinerary from Barcelona planned for me visit.
Not sure how they say it in Spain....
Muchas gracias!

good luck with your Spanish, you are going to Spain. The travel sites are the best biggest in Spain, so cant have it in any other language; maybe Marsans has a flag you can click to it.

If you go to the actual office at El Corte Ingles Travel, for example, there's a good chance someone there might speak English. If you can wait until you get there, this might be a good option.

Re: Suggestions for a Budget, 4 Day Multi-City Trip from Barcelona Posted: Sat June 27, 2009 06:51 PM UTC
Actually, I was looking for an 4 day multi-city itinerary of parts of Green Spain and Southern Spain. Since I'm limited with time, I was hoping to see the "best of" Spain in just 4 days. I would like to take in a bull fight, flamenco dancing, flea markets, bar crawls & tapas, local dining, culture, some history, church and a bit of Moorish architecture. Since I'll be traveling alone by rail, bus or flying it's important to me to be able to access transportation fairly easy if I decided to stay in 2 or three cities along the route. Any route suggestions, including the smaller city names along the way would be greatly appreciated.
Example itinerary (is this possible???)
Start off in morning from Barcelona to
1. San Sebastian
2. Bilbao
3. Madrid
4. Sevilla
5. Granada
Then back to Barcelona
Thanks!

Why not use the train (www.renfe.es?
Day 1 Barcelona to Zaragoza to Teruel.
Day 2 Teruel to València to Cuenca.
Day 3 Cuenca to Madrid.
Day 4 Madrid to Lleida to Barcelona.
Look for 60% Tarifa Web single fare discounts (book in advance) or 50% discounts fort last minute bookings on Larga Distancia and AVE (high speed) services.
In that way you will experience a mixture of larger and smaller urban areas, and the landscapes in between will almost certainly tempt you to come back again to explore the smaller towns and villages.
90% of Spain's population nowadays is 'urban', but at heart we are still a rural nation . . . and for many people their ancestral roots lie in the country, not the city.

Re: Suggestions for a Budget, 4 Day Multi-City Trip from Barcelona Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 04:29 AM UTC
Ladyplus,
Really? Are you serious? Do you know how big and diverse Spain is? If you followed your itinerary by plane (physically impossible any other way), you'd spend ALL your time in airports getting to the next stop. 4 days?
But seriously, I didn't realize you expected to see every corner of Spain and all the diverse cultural things you mention. I thought you were looking for a 4-day bus tour around Catalunya or something like that. If you really have only 4 days and are starting from Barcelona (assuming you have already spent time there and that is not included in the 4 days), then I'd say to visit a few places around Barcelona as day trips: the Penedes wine country south, Tarragona, Girona, Dali Museum at Figueres, Costa Brava (by car), Sitges, Montserrat, Colonia Guell, etc.
Look at a map of Spain see the distances. Does what I'm saying make sense? Just trying to help.

Re: Suggestions for a Budget, 4 Day Multi-City Trip from Barcelona Posted: Sun June 28, 2009 08:18 AM UTC
Badger,
Yes, I'm serious. That's why I took the time to post the question on this forum. I've never been to Spain, and I have no way of knowing if my itinerary was feasible, or not.
I already have plans for the cities that you have mentioned, that's why I inquired about Northern and Southern Spain.
As mentioned on my original post, I said that I'd be happy if I could manage 2-3 cities within the four days, before returning to Barcelona, however more the merrier.
We'll see what I manage to accomplish during my 4 day multi-city tour of Spain. I'll try my best to take time out to update my travel pages with pictures and information about my trip.
You have been helpful by telling me that my example itinerary was "physically impossible". Lol! *sigh* - I did have high hopes though. I'm going to research the miles as you suggested and the cities that AsturArcadia suggested. This all will help me plan what I hope to be an amazing trip - thank you. ;-)

AsturArcadia,
Thank you! You've been so helpful. I will check out the cities that you have suggested and get this itinerary finalized and mapped out so that I can start looking at all methods of transportation and hotels in the cities that I chose to stay over.
Much appreciated!

Re: Suggestions for a Budget, 4 Day Multi-City Trip from Barcelona Posted: Wed July 1, 2009 08:06 PM UTC
OK. Not to belabor the point, but the itinery that Astur suggests will allow you to see the scenery from the trains and see the inside of train stations, not much more. If your goal is to cover territory, then I guess that is the way to go. Well, as I said, I don't want to go into all that. I don't like to travel that way. To each his own. I hope you enjoy your trip, whatever it ends up being.
