Province de Liège Train from Paris to Maastricht
Posted: Tue June 23, 2009 10:34 PM UTC
Hi

Me and my wife will be arriving at Paris CDG on August 30, 2009.
From there I have to go to Maastricht to attend a conference.
One of my options is to get on Thalys from Paris Nord and change trains at
Liege.

on the Thalys web site there is a station named Liege and another one named
"liege ABS"

What is the difference and which station I need to choose?

I have to go to Masstricht from Liege. Should I get a train or a taxi would be ok? What would be cost difference. Train will be 2 tickets ( me and wife)

If train, do I need to make reservations or I can buy ticket right then? Is there a web site (in english if possible) where I can check trains to Maastricht?

Thank you all

It's not a different station, but different conditions! ABS means Any Belgian Station, in other words, "Liège" means you would be paying for Paris-Liège while "Liège ABS" means you would be paying for Paris-Liège PLUS onward travel to anywhere else in Belgium (but not the Netherlands, so not to Maastricht).
I don't remember exactly how much it is but it is only a few euros by train from Liège to Maastricht, I would guess maximum 6 or 7. I would also say it is too far to take a taxi (33km).
You can't reserve a seat on local trains in Belgium and there is no price advantage in buying in advance but you can buy a ticket at Liège if you can't get it through French Railways.
For train timetables use http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

You will need to exit at Liège-Guillemins wich is the main station. From there to Maastricht you have good 27km. Taxi is extremly expencive. On the other hand you can take local bus/train/boat to Maastricht.
From Mastricht to Liege return is €620 in the train.
chek www.vvv.maastricht.nl for Maastricht info including trains/buses/boats
or http://www.9292ov.nl/9292ov1489.asp
for journey planing everywere in Holland including the EuroRegio of Maastricht/Aachen/Liege.
hope this helps.

Hi Macedonian

Thank you very much for the reply.
yes, you had me going for a while
about the missing full stop :)

I tried both sites that u mentioned
but I cant get any info about public transport
neither can I get any info for Liege to
Masstricht travel from any of the two sites.

The Maastricht site, under public transport,
only talks about trains from other european cities and buses
from other european cities. I cant find any info
about Buses, trains, Trams or boats for travel
from Liege to Maastricht.

What am i missing?

Hi Gaminari

when I go to the site:
http://reiseauskunft.bahn.de/bin/query.exe/en

I can get the trains and times to and from
Maastricht but it doesnt give me fares. Seems
like it is a german site and I need to check fares at
a belgian or Dutch train site.

Can you please guide me to any such sites...in english

thanks

Hi
Chek under EUROREGIO tickets.
Should come up. as for boats, look on the Maastricht site under local tours/sightseeing.
Tickets should be around €7.50 return.
Also chel www.veolia.nl than tickets/euroregiotickets. They have lists for tickets to Aachen, Liege,Vise....
if you do not have any luck , I can pop in at the train station in Maastricht, and let you know.
