Israel Some questions!
Posted: Tue June 23, 2009 11:43 AM UTC
Hi there!

Going to Israel my 4th time starting August 11 and staying to the 27 th of Oktober.

I have some questions. I'm staying in Jerusalem and I know the city fairly well.

But, my first question. Is there any cinemas where I can watch contemperary movies with english subtitles in Jerusalem?

My second question. The settlements on the Westband (Judea and Samaria) is discused in swedish media every day. I would like to see them for myself. Are there any bus tours or similar arranged by the settlement movement that I could take?

Third. I would like to visit a synagogue while in Jerusalem. I know there are hundreds of them, but as my knowledge of judaism is poor I could need someone that translates for me and explain things. Do you have any suggestions?

Best Regards
Gustav

First question: Haven't been to the cinema in at least 6 years (maybe more), but as I remember it the films are shown in their native language with Hebrew sub-titles. May well be wrong about that though.

Re your second question: Just google it.

I got:
Results 1 - 10 of about 14,300,000 for west bank tours. (0.21 seconds)

So - many tours from both points of view!

Third question - that would require a personal friend and a synagogue that would permit it!

I haven't been to the cinema in a while either but, as far as I remember, there are no subtitles in the language of the movie. For example,if the movie is in English, there will be no subtitles in English. BTW, movies are *not* dubbed in Hebrew, and are shown in their original language (exception: certain children's movies).

The Egged bus company has a #99 bus that goes around Jerusalem and goes into a number of synagogues. http://www.egged.co.il/Eng/main.asp?lngCategoryID=2773 Fascinating tour.
