San Francisco Travelocity "Top Secret" Hotels
Posted: Tue June 23, 2009 12:22 AM UTC
Has anyone used this feature in SF? Care to share which hotel(s) you were booked at? The "Top Secret" hotel is a new option on Travelocity where you can select a rating for a hotel and location, but the actual hotel will remain a secret until you book. The supposed advantage is much lower rates.

I'm specifically looking in the Union Square area, and there's a 4 star hotel for $84.

Thanks!

I understand that the Sir Francis Drake, a few blocks north of Union Square, has rooms on sale for $109. I have stayed there 3 times over the past 5 years, and it is a good hotel in a good location.

Be very careful with the 'blind booking' in the Union Square area. One block North or South makes the difference between being actually on Union Square or on a crack peddling street. One of my top tips about SF is to make sure that booking on Union Square, you know exactly where you'll be.

Totally agree with G about the blind booking in SF. It's really not a good idea because there are some fairly nice, 3-4* hotels that run right up on the Tenderloin and that alone may end up ruining your stay.
I use Hotwire a lot, but not in SF, unless I am sure exactly which hotel it is, and I often stay outside of the city.
Good luck though.
