Guyana Bus Routes to Guyana
Posted: Mon June 22, 2009 04:57 PM UTC
I'm planning a trip arouns South America and need to get from Brazil to Guyana by road. Can anyone tell me whether this is possible and if so, where the buses go from. I know there are some from Boa Vista but I was hoping there were buses from other parts of Brazil.

Thanks.

The below link will show you the Roraima state road map:

http://www.brasil-turismo.com/mapas/roraima.htm

As you may watch the only way to Guyana is by Manaus--> Boa Vista--> Bonfim.
The road is paved already and there is a bridge in Bonfim crossing border Brazil/British Guyana connecting Boa Vista and Georgetown.
However the Guyana part is not all paved.
You may search for bus tickets in Boa Vista bus station. I don't want to make the mistake. Call up for Boa Vista bus station asking if there is demand for tickets to Georgetown. They will clear this question better than I.
Boa Vista is not widely connected to other brazilian cities because Amazon Jungle is quite thicker.

I am pasteing some interesting links to you:

The first link shows the Amapa state road map. Amapá is Cayenne's neighbour.
People are at work to build a bridge between Oiapoque/BR and São Jorge de Oiapoque/FR. The bridge will be finished by 2010.
I don't know how is the french road. The brazilian road will be all paved soon.
I am sending a video (YouTube) showing how is the road in rainy season. Drivers work a lot to travel some meters. It's crazy!

The road crosses at the Guyanese town of Letham. From there, you can take a bus to Georgetown. Check out my Guyana/Letham tips for details on the bus. Its a long bumpy road.

They do have minivans that do the same route faster, but I've heard too many negative stories of the minivans going too fast, the drivers drinking, getting stuck since they are ill equiped for the rainy season, etc.

I stopped in Letham and got of the bus and spent a night in the jungles at the canopy walk before walking back to the road at ~4:30am to wait for the bus the next day.

From Amapa State go to StGeorge by motorized canoes or aluminium flat boats, cost 8 euros. On the French Guiana side get a bus to Cayenne the capital,Taxis from Cayenne to St.Laurent, cross the Maroni river by canoe or the ferry. From Albina in Surinam get a hire car or mini bus to Paramaribo the capital. From there to Nikerie cross by ferry to Springland in Guyana, take mini bus to Georgetown
