Perth Perth stay.
Posted: Mon June 22, 2009 04:26 PM UTC
Hi ppl, i will be reaching perth this coming sunday 28th jun. will be leaving on the 1st july.
I am planning an overnight farmstay and 3 days city stay.
I plan to rent a car, should i go for the farm stay at swan valley first followed by the city stay? i heard that parking in the city is quite expensive. Should i use public transport while travelling around in city- fremantle, kings park , bell tower etc..

Hope that someone can give me some good advice. thanks in advance.

We also stayed just outside the city (Canning Bridge Autolodge), more or less between Perth and Fremantle, both very easy accessible by public transportation.
Perth was 7 minutes and Fremantle just 15 minutes.

happy travels
Jaap

It matters not if you do the farmstay first, except if you need the car to get there and back. If you are staying in the heart of Perth you don't need a car to get around. It's a small City and everything is withing walking distance. Train to Fremantle, and when you get there you can catch a free CAT bus for some sightseeing, or river cruise to Fremantle from Barrack Street Jetty, where the Bell Tower is. There is a free CAT bus service
www.pcec.com.au/library/CAT_map.pdf
Also travel in Perth City on public transport is free, so catch a bus up to Kings Park.
The ferry to Rottnest Island also leaves from Barrack Street Jetty, a great day out and you may see our famous Quokkas.
With only 3 days you won't have time to get out and see much more so you probably won't even need a car.
It's a beautiful City. Enjoy your stay.

Juat found this on another poat.

That way you can check out Kings Park in the morning. A nice trip to do would be to take the little tram from the Bell Tower on the water front up to Kings Park - $8 and then catch the bus no. 37 or 39 back down to St Georges Terrace Perth and that trip is free.

That would be my post...thanks Lyn :o)

Definately hire the car for the overnight stay in the Swan Valley and I'd do that first. You should be able to pick it up at the airport. While you have the car, I would suggest that you drive to Whiteman Park near the Swan Valley and do Caversham Wildlife Park before heading back to Perth to drop off the car. Then for the rest, in Perth...as the others said, public transport is the way to go.

Check out this site for directions - www.whereis.com.au. And if you need any further help, please don't hesitate to email me :o)

Cheers, Ann.

Perth must be the easiest city on the planet for public transport. Although driving in the city is not difficult, it's not worth the effort and all public transport in the CBD is free. Swan Valley is excellent - try Bayswater for car rental (www.nobirds.com.au) excellent vfm. If you have time, drive down to Dunsborough and Margaret River - simply another world!
