Avignon bus to pont du gard
Posted: Mon June 22, 2009 03:01 PM UTC
I will be in Avignon on October 9. I will not have a car. So is there a bus to go to Pont du gard and come back? or after seeing the gard can I take a bus to Nimes?

Is it better to visit Pont du Gard from Avignon or Nimes by bus?

From the research I did, it seems there is a "local bus" from Avignon to Pont du gard, but it stops some distance from the bridge and then a longish walk to get there. We ended up doing a tour from Avignon that included Les Baux-de-Provence, which is an amazing town. I've had a look for a web link that I had but it seems to have been taken down - suggest a google on coach/bus tours from Avignon. Good luck and the bridge is well worth a visit.

tells you how to get there, and has pdf downloads of the relevant bus timetables from Nimes and Avignon.

Both Avignon and Nimes have lots to see in themselves but as you are in Avignon it makes sense to go from there.

Or you could take the bus from Avignon, see the Pont, get the bus to Nimes, explore Nimes and then get the train back to Avignon (frequent services).

Depends how long a day you want to have, and how much time you intend to spend at the Pont du Gard.
