San Gimignano Travel Forum

We are three couples that are thinking of renting a villa in San Gimignano for 2 weeks starting on September 5th. I have several questions that I hope you can help me with. First, how crowded is it at that time of year? Is it a good location to see the surrounding area? We have a car, any recomendations for things to see and do during our stay? We also enjoy wine and cooking, are there any wineries or wine bars that you would recomend or culinary activities? Thank you in advance for all your help. rbp

As your villa will almost certainly be situated outside the town itself you shouldn't have too much of a problem with the hordes of tourists that descend on San Gimignano every single day as you can avoid the town between the hours of 9 and 5. We stayed inside the town at a hotel right on the main square for a few days and loved the evenings there when the town returns to normal but we spent our days out and about in the countryside.
