Booking a hotel in Singapore Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 05:46 PM UTC
Dear All,
I have often heard about how cheap hotel rates are booking via asiarooms.com
today, I checked some hotel rates on the internet and guess what? asiarooms.com is often the more expensive offer!
Example:
Marina Mandarin Hotel - Deluxe Room (total stay of 4 nights)
hotel homepage: 410 Euro
visitsingapore.com: 464 Euro
hoteltravel.com: 517 Euro
asiarooms.com: 820 (!!!) Euro
Sheraton Towers Hotel - Tower Wing (total stay of 4 nights)
hotel homepage: 693 Euro
visitsingapore.com: 612 Euro
hoteltravel.com: 761 Euro
asiarooms.com: 884 (!!!) Euro
Which option have you used so far?
regards, Gerlinde

Re: Booking a hotel in Singapore Posted: Sat June 20, 2009 07:48 PM UTC
In general, this past year, I have been finding that the Home sites of both Airlines and Hotels most often have the best prices. One reason, Ithink, is that with the economic downturn, they don't then have to pay any commissions to outside sites, and probably moreso that they have all become more computer/internet/tech savvy in-house than previously, as the system has matured.
And then they can build their own clientele base easier and with more control, offering perks to loyal customers.....?

Further, though, here in Nth America, for myself, since I primarily us AMERICAN AIRLINES to accumulate FFMiles, I usually check their hotel listings, and have found that their price often matches or betters the hotel's Home Site; so I use them, as I then often gain more Miles than using another site.

We've got the best prices at S'pore hotels by phoning the hotel reservations department direct and bargaining. When you decide which hotel you want, give that a try.

On my recent trip to Singapore (April 2009), we used www.agoda.com and stayed at hotel Intercontinental because it was at 50% off. The hotel is in the quiet part of Orchard Road (shopping district) and in front of the Thailand embassy. A block away is Hard Rock Cafe and some 2 blocks is their subway station. During my other visit, we stayed at Golden Landmark in Bugis Village. It was also convenient since it's near colorful shops which sell saris and silk.

I will opt for calling the hotel directly and "bargain" with them - any TIPS????
It's just a choice between Mandarin Oriental and Marina Mandarin now....

Do a search and find the cheapest price being offered on the internet. Use that as a starting point when you are bargaining, such as "I can buy it from xxx at $X but I'd much rather deal direct with the hotel. Can you offer me a better price?"

Today, I found a HOT DEAL on asiarooms for Mandarin Oriental. The deal is really hot!! I have never used any other methods before when booking a hotel - I always communicate directly with the reservations desk.
Now I am changing my mind..... I might consider using asiarooms for the first time as the price difference for 4 nights is as much as 275 Euros!
