Luxor Luxor to Cairo

I have just read on a website that all tourists must travel on the overnight sleeper train between luxor and cairo. Is this true? i wanted to take the 23.15 express train as it is so much cheaper. Can anyone enlighten me?
Thank you

That's the only train with guards on it, so yes, you have to ride it.

Thank you everyone. As there is no options then the sleeper train will have to be the one.

hey, how are you ?

i think there is a bus too, from Cairo to Luxor directly with two times to move from cairo an vice versa
in the same time Hurghada is a good midpoint in traveling and will make the road shorter in time by 34 hours

i dont know what to say about guards !! but really i saw many tourists walking and traveling without any guard!

hidalgoo, when you're traveling through one areas that have "accosted foreigners" it's always better to travel with guards. there was one road between cairo and st catherines where we had a guard in the taxi with us for our safety and because we passed very close to an army base. I think the guards were there to make sure we behaved rather than to protect us.
