Croatia Leisurely Cycling on the Islands
Posted: Fri June 19, 2009 04:16 PM UTC
Hi,
I'll be cycling for about a week at the beginning of July and I would like to find the nicest islands to visit. I'm thinking of leisurely - not too hilly - and interspersed with some swimming.

Without any real knowledge, my current plan is Hvar and Korcula, maybe a few days on each.

I also plan to buy a second hand bike in Dubrovnik. Anyone know of a good shop that sells second hand bikes,
Thanks,
Jim

i have cycled the island of hvar and it's very suitable for cycling and the hills aren't too bad there.
i was also positively suprised to see that the island does not have too much development on most parts.

I have been to Hvar, pretty good for cycling. Note that Hvar Town is extremely popular and trendy these days ("the next Ibiza") and will be very crowded and expensive in July.

Hi,
When you arrive in Dubrovnik some of local people will give you the best info where you can buy a bike. For your traveling beetwen islands please look at this shedule.

Korcula is also nice for cycling, but when you travel with bike you can't use katamaran beetwen Korcula and Hvar, which take only 1,5hour. You must travel with Jadrolinija's ferry (korcula-stari grad) and then cycling 20 km to Hvar town. I have one idea, what make your traveling more easier beetwen towns and islands. In every town, Dubrovnik, Korcula, Hvar etc. you can rent a bike in travel agency.
Have a good time here.

I would highly recommend Mljet for cycling and swimming. It is a heavenly place - an island with an island in the center of lake. Absolutely beautiful with great cycling. You can rent bikes by the day very cheaply. Have fun.
