My usual advice would be to buy travel insurance. (I always have one, but it is part of my bank plan). However, from the tone of your question I have a feeling you are somewhat scared of the "Out of the EU" world, while there is really no special reason for this. (We manage to survive quite well without being part of the EU).
UK and Croatia have reciprocal healthcare arrangements which means "hospital treatment, some dental treatment and other medical treatment" will be free for you. Croatian Ministry of Health does not have info in English, but your NHC website does:
