Croatia Travel insurance for Brac trip
Posted: Thu June 18, 2009 01:08 PM UTC
I have never bought travel insurance before but my partner is adamant about getting it for our trip to Brac. Wondering if anyone can recommend a company. Doing Google search... well there were too many to count

Thanks,
Steve

hi

I have used
insure n go
essential travel insurance ( good when we had a claim)

and my one at the moment is Fortis - but that comes free with my current account
at alliance & leicester

you should not really travel without insurance as it can cost a fortune if things go wrong - especailly in countries that do not have a reciprocal agreement through EU status ( also make sure you apply for the EHIC which covers basic care in most European Countries) when filling in insurance questionaires make sure you fill out any illnesses etc you have had and let them decide what they cover or not - my mums friend got landed with a 10,000 bil in Turkey a few years ago because he hadn't told th einsurers he had had heart problems about 10 yrs before taking the trip and they invalidated it and thehospital would not release him until the bill had been paid so he couldn't get home - had insurance been in place he would have been medivac'd out after initial treatment

hope yo usort something
and enjoy your holiday
Julie

it's better for you to have it. price you'll pay for insurance is little comparing to price you'll pay in case something happens.

My usual advice would be to buy travel insurance. (I always have one, but it is part of my bank plan). However, from the tone of your question I have a feeling you are somewhat scared of the "Out of the EU" world, while there is really no special reason for this. (We manage to survive quite well without being part of the EU).

UK and Croatia have reciprocal healthcare arrangements which means "hospital treatment, some dental treatment and other medical treatment" will be free for you. Croatian Ministry of Health does not have info in English, but your NHC website does:

Sorry for the typo: That's "NHS website", not "NHC.

Thanks all for your input.

diocletianvs, I just wanted to say I don't have any misgivings in being 'out of EU' as I had said it is my partner who was adamant about the insurance. Thanks for the link to the NHS site. I had just assumed since the Croatia wasn't part of the EEC that it would be reciprocal.

Thanks again
