Los Angeles Day Trip
Posted: Wed June 17, 2009 04:26 PM UTC
What would the best transportation and route be to see the following:
Hollywood Blvd
Rodeo Drive
Pink's
Warner Bros Studio

We will fly into LAX early on a Wednesday morning, and will be leaving around 7pm that evening.
Thanks!

The most inexpensive way is to take the shuttle to the metro, then metro downtown, then connect to the metro to Hollywood Blvd. From there you can take on of the buses heading South on La Brea to Melrose for Pinks. I would probably head up to Santa Monica Blvd and take the bus West to get to Beverly Hills and Rodeo Drive. Warner is a significant drive/trip to Burbank (http://www2.warnerbros.com/vipstudiotour/) I don't think you would have time, especially after waiting in line at Pinks....

Since you are going to have a very limited time in Los Angeles I would encouage you to rent a car. Start on W CENTURY BLVD going toward VICKSBURG AVE - go 0.30.4 mikm Turn Right on S SEPULVEDA BLVD(CA-1 N) - go 2.03.2 mikm Bear Right on HOWARD HUGHES PKY - go 0.40.7 mikm Take ramp onto I-405 N - go 4.47.0 mikm Take the NATIONAL BLVD exit - go 0.20.3 mikm Turn Right on NATIONAL BLVD Turn Left on S SEPULVEDA BLVD - go 0.81.2 mikm Turn Right on W PICO BLVD - go 2.43.9 mikm Turn Left on BEVERWIL DR Bear Left on RODEO DR Arrive at RODEO DR, LOS ANGELES. Enjoy Rodeo Drive! :-) Continue on Rodeo Drive to La Brea Ave. Turn left on La Brea and proceed to Melrose Ave. You are now at Pinks. After you have enjoyed Pinks continue north on La Brea Ave to Hollywood Blvd. Turn left on Hollywood Blvd to Mann's Chinese Theater. If you turn left at the first traffic light after Mann's Chinese Theater you will find a very convienient and inexpensive parking ramp on the left. In the front Mann's Chinese Theater you will find many famous actor's hand and footprints embedded in concrete. Enjoy Hollywood Blvd! :-)

From the Hollywood to Warner Brothers Studios:
Take Cahuenga North to Barham Blvd. and turn right.  Follow up and over the hill.  Barham turns into Olive Avenue at the bottom of the hill.  Warner Bros. Studios will be on your right.  Continue around the studio and turn right onto Riverside Drive.  Turn right at Avon Street and turn left onto Warner Blvd. following the signs to VIP Tour parking. Do not enter Gate 5.   Parking fee $5.00. Enjoy Warner Bros Studio!

Return to LAX:

Start at 3400 W RIVERSIDE DR, BURBANK going toward S AVON ST - go 0.20.3 mikm

Turn Right on N HOLLYWOOD WAY Turn Left on W ALAMEDA AVE Take ramp onto CA-134 W - go 1.72.8 mikm Continue on US-101 N - go 5.48.7 mikm Take the SANTA MONICA/SACRAMENTO exit onto I-405 S toward SAN DIEGO FWY SOUTH/SANTA MONICA - go 17.528.2 mikm Take exit #46/CENTURY BLVD/LAX AIRPORT toward CENTURY BLVD WEST - go 0.40.6 mikm Turn Left on S LA CIENEGA BLVD - go 0.20.3 mikm Turn Right on W CENTURY BLVD - go 1.22.0 mikm Follow the signs to your terminal

Have a safe flight.

Enjoy sunny California!

You really need a car for the day to get everything in without waiting for the bus. Instead of the Warner Bros. Studios, get in a little fun for no entrance fee at the Universal City Walk, next door to Universal Studios. They open at 11am and have over 20 restaurants on site. See their website: http://www.citywalkhollywood.com./ Only a couple of miles up from the Kodak Theatre and the Chinese Theatre in Hollywood. Have lunch, shop around, go back down to Rodeo Drive, look around the Beverly Hills shops. Stop at Madame Chocolat at 212 N. Canon Dr. near Wilshire for the best chocolate truffles. By 4 pm at Pink's for that snap and back to Lax with time to spare.

In this article LA for free, I've mapped out the way to get to the Walk of Fame and Universal Studios using the Red Line subway and then bus 720 to get to Rodeo Drive and Sta. Monica Beach.

http://www.ehow.com/how_4907060_act-visit-its-top-sights.html

Please note though that the bus may encounter traffic so best to start your day early.

Hard Rock Cafe is inside Universal City Walk, requiring expensive parking or the tram ride up the hill - time consuming...and boring, overall.

You won't have a lot of time, so move Hard Rock to the bottom of the list...in my opinion.

YellowBell's link is good.

Yellow - directions don't mention taking the Metro back down to Santa Monica/Vermont Station to get the RapidBus. Otherwise, dead on ;)

I beg to differ with the parking reply being far away. The parking for City Walk is right next to the shops and walk. Jurassic Parking and Curious George Parking are on either side of the Hard Rock location which is across from the Cinemans at Cinema Plaza. I am there frequently as my B-i-L is the VP of communications at NBCUNI and has an office on the lot. Check it out for yourself. Also click on the map to see location. Just ask where is the Cinema Plaza and you can't miss the Hard Rock Cafe. Worth the trip to enjoy all the music industry's objects. http://www.citywalkhollywood.com/visitorinfo/parking.html

BTW, 2 hours of free valet parking at Jurrasic Parking with validation from Hard Rock Cafe Monday thru Friday 11 am to 3 pm., so the expense is not that costly for parking when you add the free entry.

Glad you found my Rapid Bus and Metro Red Line suggestions helpful. Check on my article LA for free http://www.ehow.com/how_4907060_act-visit-its-top-sights.html and you'd also see pictures of Universal City Walk. I love the walk at night because of the lights :-) and free concerts and movies during the summer.

I get 5 cents per view of my ehow article so please check it out!

Thanks.

Gil, with the closure of the Beverly Hills HRC, the Universal HRC gets a lot of business from those looking for the rock memorabilia goodies to help them remember when. they also serve a pretty good burger.

You can take the bus North on Lincoln to Santa Monica, visit the pier, beach, etc., then you can head East on Wilshire to Rodeo Drive. There are regular buses that go up and down Wilshire, but with your limited time you may want to pay taxi fare. Karl
