Florence Shortcut into Uffizi Museum / Best way to park the car
Posted: Wed June 17, 2009 02:38 PM UTC
Hi,

My wife and me are looking forward to our Tuscany journey in June/July. One of the sightseeing spots we need to go is the Uffizi Museum. From earlier trips to Florence we know that there are long queues at the ticket counter.
I wonder if it is a good idea to stand up real early and be the first at the ticket counter? Or is buying tickets online the safest way?

As we stay near Siena, we come to Florence by car - do you have an advice where it is best to park the car outside of the city and take the train / bus?

Thank you very much in advance,

Mario

If you will be there in the busy season, then yes, buying your ticket in advance online is the best way to go.

There are different parking areas in Florence. Have look at my parking tips:

Yes, definitely get your ticket ahead of time if you are sure whenyou will be there; we did, and it saved a lot of time and were so happy not to be standing in the other line! There is a special window to go to just prior to your designated timeframe.

Agree.there are queues even in low season, and you cannot be sure that there will not be a long queue when you want to visit.

Everyone, of course, 'gets there early' to avoid the queues!

You can buy tickets from online agencies (with commission, of course), but the official website is:

Don't know how you are coming up to Florence, but we park in Grassina and take the bus into Florence. Parking is free at the athletic fields and you buy a bus ticket at the tabac across from the bus stop.

Had you thought of simply taking the train from Siena? That might be easiest. The train goes right to the center of Florence where all the sights are.

Do buy your tickets to Uffizi ahead of time. We were there way off season and stood in line for 4 hours. We did NOT enjoy the museum after the wait. Use the official web site or even pay a fee someplace else, but get the tickets ahead of time. You may have a short wait even with a ticket.
