Which hotel can you most recommend? Posted: Wed June 17, 2009 01:01 PM UTC
Dear VT-Travellers,
I am planning a short stop-over in Singapore on my way to Korea, and I am fighting my way through the jungle of hotel offers!
As a holder of the KrisFlyer card, I am most interested in one of the hotels of the partner programm, preferbely in Orchard Road: eg.
Pan Pacific Orchard
Pan Pacific Singapore
Hilton
Grand Hyatt
Intercontinental Middle Road
Holiday Inn Parkview
Holiday Inn Atrium
Mandarin Oriental Orchard
Meritus Mandarin
M Hotel
Sheraton Towers
The St. Regis
Raffles Hotel
Shagri-La
Traders
Goodwood Park
Amara
Fullerton
As I am travelling alone, I'd prefer a hotel where the lobby or lounge is not filled with "working" girls....
Any suggestions is welcome! Thank you in advance for your help.
Greetings from Germany
Gerlinde

Hi,
None of the above are filled with "working girls" as you probably have a complete listing of the high-end hotels in the city! You need to decide what you want - do you want to be in the centre of Orchard Road or near water? Do you want an old hotel with lots of history (and creaky floorboards) or plush, new and modern? Using that you can whittle your list down a little...
How much are you willing to spend? Are any of these out of your budget range?
Cheers
Kim

all are ok
Mandarin in the best, but most expensive
I've stayed at Traders twice and its a good value
the Hyatt is on the corner and is central to everything - good Italian in the basement
get up early and walk the botanical garden around the corner (see my tips)

We spent 2 nights at the St. Regis a few moths ago. Aside from being a beautiful property, the service was exceptional. From check-in, when someone came into the room with us to orient us to all of the amenities, to the concierge service, to check-out, everything was done with attention to detail and professionalism.
The room itself was spacious, quiet, and very comfortable.
There is more to say about the St. Regis but I'll simply say that I recommend it. However, it is a bit expensive.

Have you checked some of the current deals? The Mandarin is vey nice of course, but has never been the most expensive. Right now they show SGD349 per night (in July, not knowing when you are going); but for my preferences, it would be the GOODWOOD PARK if you want to be real close to Orchard Rd., and they are showing a FAB SGD260/night rate; and even my beloved RAFFLES is showing a fantastic rate for 60 days advance bkg of SGD413/night, which is a 30% discount. They also have a 20% discount for 30 days advance, or a 10% discount for closer timeframe!
I have just been looking myself at another jaunt to Sri Lanka with a pos S'pore stopover (KrisFlyer as well), so might just look into these further!
BUEN VIAJES!

I've stayed at the Hilton, Sheraton and Traders.
I'd imagine the others are more or less the same. All offer excellent service and very nice amenities. There is a lot of competition in Singapore for hotels, so they all do what they can to keep their guests comfortable and loyal for their patronage.
I'd make the decision based on what is the most important factor for you. Budget? Walking distance from a particular place? etc.

wow! thank you for all your responses!
@cartki: good to know that none of the hotels are filled with "working girls". Since it's only a short stop-over to Korea (3 nights stay) - I'd prefer to stick to the city and near the MRT stations.
@StumpTim: I have not received any offer from Mandarin Oriental yet (is this the Mandarin you mentioned?). Hyatt is one of my favourite, but I am not into Italian ciusine - I prefer SINGAPOREAN FOOD!!! *lol*
@davidmg: St. Regis is off my list, as they are not participating in any mileage programm.
@Viajesdel: I have sent out an enquiry emails to the hotels and waiting for their responses. Goodwood Park and Raffles have not responded yet.....
@DSwede: it just should have a nice swimming pool, spa, and near MRT stations:-)

I haven't stayed at Raffles but it's probably the best on the list. It's a bit of a walk to the nearest MRT station though, so I'll vote for Goodwood Park. It's a beautiful historic old hotel just a short stroll to Orchard MRT and Orchard Road.
Rooms are larger than most, beautifully furnished, staff are great. For eating I suggest you use the food halls and hawker centres - details of all of this in my Singapore Tips.

Hi All,
after some research, I have shortened my list of choice, I still can't decided among these hotels:
- Intercontinental (Perekan rooms & view)
- Mandarin Oriental (like rooms with Asian flair & view of water)
- Shangri-La (looks like a resort in the city)
- Grand Hyatt (Orchard Road & Food Court nearby)
Hope you'll share your experiences with me in one of these hotels or tell me what I should be aware of.... eg. is any of these hotels under construction? I always have the luck to pick the noisiest hotel *lol*
Thanks again.

We stayed in Intercontinental along the quiet part of Orchard Road (shopping district) because the subway station is just 2 blocks down and shopping is right at your door step. Pan Pacific is also another alternative.
