Which train ticket to buy from airport & to use rest of week in Munich Posted: Tue June 16, 2009 01:50 PM UTC
I went on the official website and there were a dizzying array of ticket types, zones etc. I would like to travel by using the most economical local transportation.
I arrive on a Friday at Munich Airport and will stay with a friend at the Westin at Arabellastr. 6
Every day, including the day I arrive...I would like to go to yoga at Leonrodstr. 6
I leave the following Friday. (on Sunday we are moving to the Renaissance Hotel at Theodor-Dombart-Strasse 4 if it makes a difference in zoning)
Please advise. I am very confused as to what to buy since the week pass is from Monday-Monday.
Thank you so much in advance!

From Munich Airport to Munich you need tickets covering the whole MVV network.
Single ticket is EUR 9,20.
Day ticket is EUR 10,00.
Partner day ticket (good for 2-5 persons) is EUR 18,00.
http://www.mvv-muenchen.de
If you really stay just in Munich the whole time, you could buy two 3-day tickets for the "MVV inner zone" (all of Munich and a few nearby smaller places) to cover the time Sa-Su-Mo Tu-We-Th.
With a "normal tourist program" it will be better to buy single day tickets depending on your plans.
Dachau memorial site: MVV "München XXL"
Oberschleißheim palaces, aviation museum: MVV "München XXL"
Andechs monastery: MVV "whole network"
Neuschwanstein Castle, Herrenchiemsee New Palace, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Mittenwald, Landshut, Regensburg, Salzburg, ...: Bavaria Ticket
Bavaria Ticket Single (1 person) EUR 20,00
Bavaria Ticket (2-5 persons) EUR 28,00
Bavaria Ticket includes the MVV, but its validity is more restricted:
Mo-Fr: from 9am till 3am next day
Sa,Su: from midnight till 3am next day
MVV tickets and the Bavaria Ticket cover all local public transport:
- regional trains (RB,RE,ALX,BOB)
- S-Bahn
- U-Bahn (metro)
- trams
- buses

Thank you! To clarify, I can use the 10 euro day ticket to get to hotel AND to go to and from yoga? That is what a day ticket means?
Then, I am to buy 3 day passes for the rest of my stay? I will just be using the subway to and from yoga and maybe to visit the center. I have visited most of the sites as a student years ago and have no desire to go back.
How much is the 3 day pass? And I can use that to go to my yoga class from both of my hotels?
Thank you SO much!!!

Thank you! One more question: Please direct me on how to get from the Airport to the Westin at Arabellastr. 6. Many thanks! Looking forward to visiting your beautiful city. Please ask me any question about NYC or Vancouver, Canada my hometown.

Hi Carolync,
Here's a map:
http://www.stadtplandienst.de/map.asp?sid=3c795a799bf970a3ca2c00d7823b95e9&start.x=5&land=de&city=M%FCnchen&str=Arabellastrasse+6&Abschicken=GO
(or http://tinyurl.com/m5jgmm , if above URL is too long)
Here's the MVV (Munich's public transport system) railway map:
http://mvv-muenchen.de/web4archiv/objects/download/3/schnellbahnnetz_2009.pdf
From the Airport, take the S8 line
change at Stachus station to the U4 towards Arabellapark
get off at Richard-Strauss-Strasse
(If you're in a hurry, you can also change from the S8 to U5 towards Laimer Platz at Ostbahnhof, go one stop to Max-Weber-Platz and then change again to the U4 towards Arabellapark)
If you feel like it, give me a yell when you get here, maybe I can introduce you to the Bavarian tradition of beer gardens.. :-)
Enjoy Munich,
Glissi
