Madrid directions by metro from Baragas airport to Plaza Espanya
Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 09:37 PM UTC
We are staying at a hotel (Tryp Menfis) that appears from a map to be within walking distance of Plaza Espanya metro station. Please advise the best route to get to the hotel from the airport.

I have done that trip - very easy with one change. You can use http://www.metromadrid.es/es/index.html to track your itinerary, what's most important, however, is to be *extremely* careful with pickpockets when you change cars. I have been there several times and someone has tried to go thru my backpack when someone from the outside screamed and said "le estan robando" - (they're robbing you).

Odd part is that the train took off, w/the pick pocket on board and I could not figure out who of the people near me it was. Good part is that I carry all my valuables under my clothing and other than opening both backpack zippers they got nothing.

Don't let this derail you - I am a woman traveling alone and *always* take the metro. The Tryp Memfis, if you get out from the correct side of the station, is less than half a block away - extremely convenient.

Additionally, there's a large Metro office upstairs in the airport, right before you go down to the platform where the cars are. They will give you a map and confirm the way to go, so no worries even if you lose your notes there's easy help in the metro part of the airport.

Ah, what a long post for such a simple answer ...

I just looked at the link. It is amazing. I have printed out the directions. Can you tell me how to find the correct side to exit at Plaza Espanya please.

If I recall, it just says "Gran Via" exit. Should not be difficult at all - you will be walking upstairs.

you are in main street in Madrid, near Plaza de España, and metro connections are very easy. From airport you take line 8, to Nuevos Ministerios, there you take line 6 to Cuatro Caminos, then line 2 to Noviciado stop and walk to hotel metro exit calle noviciado, then take left on calle alamo, then right on calle de los reyes to GRan Via ,turn left the hotel is right there, about 300-400 meters total.

another is on Nuevos Ministerios you take line 10 to plaza de España, and walk to hotel cross over to Gran Via and the hotel is almost in the corner of Gran Via and calle de los Reyes. a shorter walk and less changes ::)

hope it helps
