London Stansted express
Posted: Mon June 15, 2009 08:24 PM UTC
Flying from Germany to Stansted by Ryan air.

I am going to book my stansted express tickets online from stansted airport but was wondering whether its better to get off at Tottenham Hale or Liverpool street...I plan to go straight to Southfields to catch wimbledon. I was wondering which has better connections, Tottenham or Liverpool?

Looks like I can only buy the discounted Ryan air tickets to Liverpool street but I can always get off at Tottenham Hale, since its still cheaper than buying a return ticket for Tottenham on the official website.

Also, I am a little confused about the oyster card v. travel card...I plan on purchasing an oyster card at Stansted airport or one of the tube stations mentioned above since I think I only will be using the tube for two trips on Friday and Sunday. I may be using the tube a lot on Saturday but then again as I understand it will cap off at the daily limit, which is 50p less than the 1 day travelcard fare. So I don't really see the point of gettig a travelcard, unless I am missing something here.. I also really don't understand why you need a travelcard put on a oystercard.

I plan on visiting london again so the oyster card sounds the best way to go...
thanks,
neelv

O.......the travelcard v Ostyer thing is so complicated!

Look at this page, then decide.

http://www.londontoolkit.com/briefing/travelcard.htm

For only a few days it's not worth worriting about, imo.

Presumably you want to know about Tube connections from T Hale/L St? Tube map here:

and useful journeyplanner to check details here;

Personally I use the Oyster card even though I only need it a couple of times a year. It is useful in that if you do make several journeys in the same day, then the price cap automatically kicks in and of course the Oyster is valid for all zones (with fares depending on the particular journey). Whereas with a travelcard you need to specify which zones you need it for.

An oyster card is useful if you come back to london ocasionally. It cost £3.00 deposit. You must remeber to tap in at the beginning of your journey and and tap out oat the end. When you first tap in deducts the full £4.00 fare which is the flat rate fee for a trip in london and when you tap out it calculates the zones you've travelled in a refunds you the balance. If you forget it keeps the £4.00.
The Stansted Express is expensive but you can get a national express coach which goes every half hour 24 hours a day from stansted and it stops at stratford where you can connect to the Central and Jubilee lines for access in the centre of london in about 20 minutes. You can book online at www.nationalexpress.co.uk or com.
The oyster doesn't have an expiry date.
write to me if you need any other information
